I don't understand what you hope to accomplish here by negatively questioning the one person here who has accomplished more than anyone in communicating with the correct people at YouTube.

I can't answer re: this current effort, but I can give a little (off topic) explanation.
Many months ago, just after the feb 10th protests, a massive e-mail list was compiled with about 27k e-mail addresses of editors and high-profile journalists. That list was not handed out to anonymous as a whole, because that list is to be used for strategic press releases.

There was a bit of a (minor) power struggle between (the now defunct) #marblecake (who were incredibly valuable in the early days of our movement) and the enturbulation moderators with respect to how press releases are to be made. Marblecake had made many of our most-viewed videos, and wanted to script our press releases too. Some of us on enturbulation wanted the press releases to be made open-source on the forums, emphasizing our transparency.

Some of each went out. Thankfully the person in possession of the 27k list is fairly diplomatic and worked in the interest of the Anonymous movement, and not in the interest of either #marblecake or the enturbulation mods (who can be a bit controlling and secretive themselves from time to time, though we actively try not to).

There are anons who are journalists, who professional design press releases for companies, who are high-up in high-profile companies, and so on. They are using their resources to our advantage, and not all of them have the luxery of sharing their resources with us openly. We still welcome their help.

So yeah. Anonymous is open-source. Anonymous is transparent. Anonymous tries to share resources and de-emphasize the importance of any individual. Anonymous has no leaders.

But when it comes to our active PR campaigns and directly interracting with journalists, CEOs, and so on... sometimes an all-out spam campaign isn't the best strategy. We have people in contact with those we need to be in contact with. I'm inclined to take their advice in how we can help them. Right now, they're telling us to be patient, and to keep the pressure on at youtube and google fax numbers, e-mail addresses and phone numbers. Make our existence known, make our persistence known. And let those people behind the scenes do their thing.

YouTube is ONE THING and a press release is another. Where is the most recent press release and how is it distributed? This is a fair and good question and it is an IMPORTANT question and Victor knows it. NEGATIVE? It is IMPORTANT. Sorry to bring this up, but it IS AN ISSUE.

Thank you. I've got a LOT of high profile experience and I am asking questions that need to be asked. Enough for this board for now. BUT there are REAL concerns about this based on knowledge and experience. I really appreciate your answer.

You can start a press release yourself if you like, in the english comp forum. If it's judged as good, it will get sent out. We don't want to overwhelm the press with daily press releases, but we are happy to put out good, pointed, concise and informative ones as often as necessary.

Google gets paid for the placements, I believe, not on how many people actually see it (I think the "hit" is calculated even if its blocked and not displayed, for one thing). here is the beauty, you compile a list of advertisements you used to see on youtube and let them know 'hey youtube has a problem with the community and havent really taken steps to resolve it so in protest I blocked the ads you placed on their service'

you tell the people paying for the ads that they arent being seen.

i mean your logic is flawed because this has worked in the past. people will know their ads arent' being seen when they aren't getting clicks into their site. they will notice the traffic is dropping off. they will be like 'wtf we used to get all kinds of refers from youtube, now not so much' its easily traceable via http referrer logs.

I'm going to say this again. Television networks, think old school youtube, they distribute content and make money from selling advertisements. This has worked against them over and and over and over again.

People have boycotted products featured during programming they didn't like. Did they really boycott that kind of toilet paper? I dunno but they called them and said 'hey you support that programming, I'm boycotting you' and guess what? ads get pulled.

it works no matter what you say to the contrary. its proven.

people will know their ads aren't being seen when the refers from google and youtube drop off, not to mention when we call them and tell them.
