Sunderland - UK
Followup from Sunderland, UK
Called PC Hepton up today before I left, to make sure that we would be giving them enough notice if I were to go in today. Didn't speak with him, he was in a meeting, but got a lackey who said it would be too late, as the public order act says 'Must be delivered not less than 6 clear days'. Delivering it today wouldn't be enough of a warning, we wouldn't be able to do it. Also, something I mentioned on the IRC, I won't be able to make any protests in Sunderland before September. Its exam and coursework time for this month, then I'm back home for a month, in Bath for a couple of months, home then back to uni. On this note, I'm slightly worried about whats going to happen to the protests over the holidays, as at least half the anon here are students like myself, so they won't be turning up. But it would be good if we could keep the protests up anyway. |

Can't someone (else) MAIL one in NOW for June 14 and then telephone in a couple of days to verify it has been received? |

Re: Sunderland - UK
Had a feeling they would want the 6 clear days. Do we need permission for a static demonstration?, i thought i read on a thread somewhere that it aint necessary. I suppose we should just play by the rules and keep them sweet. Regarding numbers, they are always gonna go up and down, and i'm sure students leaving the area will be replaced by those coming back to the North East!!

HTD, if you haven't heard from iviv by now you'd better go ahead and do it yourself, or else May 24 won't happen either. It's getting embarrassing.

Re: Sunderland - UK
Is there a head count for your protest? If so, please consider posting your numbers for the 10.05.08 head count. Thanks.

Re: Sunderland - UK
Just popping in to the thread and thus I've probably missed a lot of important information, but you DON'T need to give six clear days notice unless you're trying to organise a procession for some reason. Static protests require no permission at all.

Re: Sunderland - UK
It seems our local police force don't go along with this. :). You want to go there and argue with them?

Re: Sunderland - UK
Wrong part of the country I'm afraid. Ask them what legislation they're basing what they're saying that on. Then point out that it's talking about processions not assemblies. Then point out Art 11 HRA to them that guarantees your right to assembly.

Re: Sunderland - UK
Phoned sunderland police station. PC Hepton is not in till Monday so going down to submit the application to one of his colleagues today Friday, giving us a clear 6 days as they have requested. Seems their interpretation of the law is different to other forces in the UK
