Well it does depend on air traffic control, which might also end up being a problem in DC. Far too many don't-fly zones and terrorist alerts. We don't want anything like the Boston Aquateen Hungerforce viral advertising fiasco.

Re: Operation: Nightlight

Righto, well emailed 3 places (tried a 4th, but the email address they gave on their site didn't work) - all very specialist. What I wrote follows, and I attached an image of the Anon suit:

Brief and to the point, they don't need our backstory;

Quote:
Hello, I write to you on behalf of the loosely affiliated collection of people known as 'Anonymous'. We have been actively protesting against the Church of Scientology worldwide since February, and have enjoyed great success. Our next protest will be taking place on March 10th, and we are looking to raise public awareness, as well as gain some more interest from the mainstream media. One idea currently under consideration is a batman style projection of our symbolic suit logo (please find attached) in silhouette, with 'MAY 10th -EXPECT US' underneath it. Obviously, we are not a major company looking to advertise and so don't have the financial resources of the majority of your clients, but could we get some idea of how much it might cost to project onto a major building in central London (Big Ben is a favourite, but I suppose that's costly, perhaps Battersea power station) per night, say from 8pm to 1am?
We would want it really rather large, and in a very foot traffic heavy are.

Thank you for your time,

Anonymous.
The sites if your interested are:
EMF Technology for large special effects - lighting, laser systems, water screens, flame effects and audio visual
Outdoor Advertising, Outdoor Large Scale Projection, Advertising Projection, Monumental Outdoor Projection, Laser Projection, Big Projection, Impact Projection, Architectural Projection
PROJECTION ADVERTISING [I sent this one first, and so they have the V mask, its fine though, still gives a rough pricing idea]

Another thing to keep in mind that I just thought of. In the effort of keeping up with being anonymous, be very wary of checks and credit cards. These are traceable. Cash is not. That being said, I would be more than happy to make an 'anonymous' contribution to anyone trying to purchase one of these spotlights as i think it is an idea with great merit.

Right... cos I know what that is... It's obviously legal for these guys in London, but I'm a' thinkin' you need the permission of whomever owns the building you project on to and probably permission from the mayors office. Hopefully they can handle all that

good, but two things

1. Typo on word area
2. Perhaps make it clear that that isn't final design and will be higher res etc.

Where's the typo? And it was clear it was just a quote - the subject was "Quote for potential custom"

Re: Operation: Nightlight

Haha, what happened with Boston was an epic fail. When the ATHF movie was coming out, Cartoon Network was placing lite-brights with the moonians flipping the bird all over different cities. Boston shat a brick and started charging those guys with terrorist actions and shut down the city essentially so they could investigate the lite-brights. In effect, we don't want to advertise something in a humorous way, only to get slapped with charges. Actually, anyone who knows what ended up happening to the guys placing the lite brights, let me know. I didn't follow that terribly close.

HAH! I think we will be OK if we follow procedure etc. and don't upset anyone in the doing (except scilons - they are, ahem, "fair game")

Cool, you've already sent it. It's clear what it means and there are not real problems with it.

I thought you were checking it b4 sending, but none of that stuff is really important.

Re: Operation: Nightlight

info on boston athf thing

2007 Boston bomb scare - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

it's kind of a different issue, since these were unattended electronic devices that could have been bombs, and ours will be a projection.

Re: Operation: Nightlight

clouds are too iffy. Depends on weather being just right, it could distort the images, etc. As was said earlier, Batman could do it because he was Batman. We are not Batman and thus we use buildings.

Re: Operation: Nightlight

Well actually, I was just perusing the bottom link there (PROJECTION ADVERTISING) and noticed they do actually have cloud projection. Potentially that could be more viable. Pending further info/quotes I can't really do nowt but guess, however I suspect there could be issues such as permission from the building owner (whose building your projecting on to) and that could potentially be both difficult and maybe even costly, who knows? Clouds on the other hand... well no one owns them, BUT, there is then probably the issue of airspace - I mean that's gonna take a pretty powerful spotlight, and will probably blind any hapless pilots who stray into it.

As I say though - who knows?

Cos I was too excited with my plan to think up a decent name. For other instances of this, see Hitler's "Operation: Sealion" when he planned to invade Britain. That's not a very terrifying name....

And yes, that's kind of what I meant - only just the suit, and then underneath in bold, "MAY 10th --- EXPECT US" - viral = win

Possibly a small xenu.net or some other link, but ultimately I think its much classier to leave people guessing/waiting
