Operation: Pink Noise
In recent weeks I've sent out the letter below to over 100 LGBT interest magazines in the UK and USA. It's got some attention and I believe it would be worth mounting a campaign to bring it's contents to a wider audience.
I'm going to make two further posts. A list of potential recepients of the letter and some further suggestions to support the campaign. Feel free to post and tell me what an atrocious idea you think this is. Here's the letter: Letter to LGBT organisations Here's the original thread. Please post discussion as to the content of the letter here: Letter to LGBT organisations |

Re: Operation: Pink Noise
Here are the ideas I've had for other people to send the letter to. I've tried hard to identify influential people who are especially likely to be interested in the letter.
Some examples are illustrated with UK centric examples but I'm sure you can easily adapt them to your territory. If you don't already have one then don't forget that special anonymous email account. ;) 1) LGBT specific publications. The list I had was for the UK and US only and even then I doubt that it was exhaustive for those countries. There were also plenty of bounces not to mention those that didn't take an interest, first time around. So, track down email addresses for LGBT titles and get hold of them. 2) Other journalists with an interest in LGBT issues. Go to the website of your favourite newspaper and search the articles using appropriate keywords (gay, homosexual, pride, etc.). You'll soon start identifying journalists who will be sympathetic to a story like this. Find their email address and let them know about this. 3) Prominent LGBT figures. Take a look at this Independant article from late last year. It's a list of the 100 most influential gay people in the UK. Can you find a contact address for any of them? If so, send them a copy. The pink list 2007 | Independent on Sunday, The | Find Articles at BNET.com Anons in other countries, can you locate a similar resource? 4) Political figures who have a demonstrable interest in Homosexual equality. The following link is a list of gay specific legislation presented to Parliament over the last decade or so. Does your MP have a track record of voting pink? If so then why not send him or her a copy of the letter? Policy #826: "Homosexuality — Equal rights" — The Public Whip Note, do not bother communicating with MPs other than your own, it's a wast of time. Again resources for other countries would be helpful. 5) LGBT advocacy organisations. Do you know the address of Stonewall or a similar organisation in your area? If you are a student there is bound to be an LGBT advice shop on your campus. If so take the last line of the letter: "I would therefore appreciate it if you could give this issue your attention." and substitute it with: "I would be interested in knowing if your organisation has a policy concerning the Church of Scientology" Last edited by endCOSsoon; 04-14-2008 at 02:44 PM. Re: Operation: Pink Noise
The other things I've thought of that could do help this effort:
1) Acting as a contact for the media. By far the most important thing for a journalist is having a contact. If you are feeling up to it you could take this role. Take a look at the original thread and you'll see a number of topics you could look into. They've been deliberately omitted because they require some explanation. For instance: *The tone scale *Quentin Hubbard *The "cancellation" of the policy. Note that you don't have to be LGBT to do this. I'm not, I just find the idea of 'curing' those that are different to me to be distasteful. 2) Locate Ex-Scns with experience of this issue. Following on from the above; the more ex-Scientologists that can speak out about this the better. People who are LGBT themselves or with experience of 'curing' homosexuality will be of interest. Remember that this is a big ask of someone so please respect their wishes as to how public they want to be on this. I don't have an account on OCMB, ESK or Ex-scn. Can someone do so? 3) Make a noise in online discussion groups. Perhaps you are gay yourself. Alternatively you might participate in discussion groups that would find this sort of thing to be of interest. If so try bringing some of the concerns to light. 4) Translate the letter into other languages I've put up requests for this to be done in the forums. If you can then please do. 5) Create a supporting evidence pack. Point 1 above mentioned three points which are not adequately covered by the letter. Perhaps you could summarise them in a nice pdf that could be attached to the letter. Last edited by endCOSsoon; 04-14-2008 at 02:47 PM. |

Re: Operation: Pink Noise
I think there is a lot of potential in pursuing this. Although some LGBT organizations might have qualms with attacking a "religion", if it's clearly demonstrated that they are deceptive about their practices of reparative therapy, they might feel otherwise. At least organizations such as "Love in Action" don't hide their agenda. Scientology still, clearly, considers homosexuality an "aberration" and, although they claim to have cancelled discipline for such behavior, they still consider "processing" to be the correct way to "handle" such things...

![]() From what I've read and heard, Travolta isn't one of their famed "success" stories. He is utterly stalled on the Bridge and isn't putting in the big cash to be a pet asset anymore. I mean, he is an almost completely failed actor currently. Ten to one, Travey is hardly a prioritized figure as he isn't seen at org very often, hasn't recruited any "celebutards" lately (if at all), and thus most likely not getting the "tech" help 'he needs to cure his fluffy pink evil Body Thetans.' haha But I am pushing the letter around!! I DO think we need to put the Anti-Gay policies in the light and get the word out to the people, that the GLBT discrimination is real. Yes, it may not be obvious to many inside, as they might not be generating enough attention for the "Cure the Gay Outta Ya" courses to be peddled to them. But it is there. There are many stories of it, just like Jason said recently in an interview with the Village Voice (Linked in Breaking News Thread) and I believe it was Jenna (sorry If I am wrong) who spoke of their gay-tendency intolerance in another venue recently. Operation Pink Noise needs some backing!! endCOSsoon: If you are looking for some translations and haven't progressed, let me know. I can try my skills (and my Translating Fool friend's skills) and see if we can help. I've got accounts on other forums, Let me know what you want re-posted. I'd be happy to work on a SEvidence Pdf if you have some articles to start with. If not, I'm sure a bit of interwebz Guru and maybe some copy and pasting from released Tech could be browsed over and compiled. ![]() I'm a Bi Female, a mother, and an artist. Honestly, between the stories of abortions and intolerance of the gay lifestyle within the church make my temple swell in anger. Catholicism may not like my choices, but at least they wouldn't tell & sell me to take a class on how to Not think boobies and hip bones aren't sexii. :p |

Re: Operation: Pink Noise
NUS LGBT conference is coming up (eww, student politics :)), so any Anons attending (there must be at least 1?) should make a bit of noise about this. It's too late to put in any motions of statement of belief or whatever, but word of mouth is fine too. Just be sure that you know your stuff - it's not like LGBT people are going to die of shock when they find out that a "Religion" doesn't like them, so stuff like the Tone Scale and Jo'burg Confessional will be helpful.
If I keep procrastinating on my other commitments, I could knock up a quick CoS LGBT fact sheet fairly soon. |

Re: Operation: Pink Noise
IMO, as soon as you bring this up, somebody is invariably going to say "well.. other religions don't like us either... so why don't we protest them instead". To which the counter argument could be "yes, but those other religions are forthright about what they believe. Scientology claims to be tolerant, but once you're in, changes it's story, labels your behavior an 'aberration' and promises to 'handle' it with 'auditing' (for a price). The difference is the lack of informed consent and the fact that scientology deceives people into 'change'."
Then point them to a video, such as this one Last edited by psyborgue; 04-15-2008 at 03:11 PM. Reason: meh.. upper video is better |
