[LEGAL] [RUSSIA] prosecution wants the closure of a Scientology centre in Siberia

Below is the goggle translation of this french article :

Quote:
MOSCOW, July 3, 2008 (AFP) - The prosecution wants the closure of a centre for Scientology in Siberia

The prosecutor of the Siberian region of Novosibirsk has demanded the closure of a local centre of the Church of Scientology accused of providing education programs without authorization, said Thursday the agency Interfax.

The prosecution officially called "the liquidation of the non-profit association 'Social Rehabilitation Centre of persons having a criminal past proved Kriminon-Novosibirsk", according to a press release reproduced by Interfax.

The centre is engaged in teaching activity, without creating educational establishment and, what constitutes a gross violation of the law ", added the prosecutor to justify its decision to request the closure of Kriminon-Novosibirsk.

He is notably accused of giving lectures, making conferences, and organize seminars.

The Church of Scientology was founded in 1954 by the author of science fiction L. Ron Hubbard to the USA where she obtained the tax advantages reserved for worship. In Russia, a 1996 law describes as the "destructive religious organisation".

Scientology is considered a sect in many European countries, including France, Germany and Belgium, where his critics accused him of manipulating members for financial ends.
I couldn't find any reference to this news neither on AP site or Interfax.
Even worse: typing "Scientology" in their search engines do not give ANY result...

Re: [LEGAL] [RUSSIA] prosecution wants the closure of a Scientology centre in Siberia

I found an article on Gazeta.ru: here

I don't speak Russian, but the headline is "Прокуратура просит суд закрыть сайентологический центр в Новосибирске" or "Office of Public Prosecutor asks court to close Scientology center in Novosibirsk".

It's the only article I can find by searching Google News Russia for 'Саентология Новосибирск' ('scientology novosibirsk').

Any rusfags out there?

Rusfags - keep an eye on this situation. A well-aimed harpoon (or a fucking barrage of them) could point the Public Prosecutor in the right direction to help him get it closed.

While Eu/US/Azn anons might agree that CoS is grossly violating the law,
the Rus seem to have different ideas about what constitutes
"gross violation". Unless we can get a better translation,
this doesn't sound like the sort of win I'd feel very proud supporting.

Re: [LEGAL] [RUSSIA] prosecution wants the closure of a Scientology centre in Siberia

From using online translation programs, it looks like the prosecutor is basically arguing that Kriminon-Novosibirsk is unauthorized to carry out educational activities without the proper license. The article also says something like this (my attempted translation): "Academic psychology considers this program to be antiscientific, dangerous to individuals' mental health, and morally unacceptable, says the prosecutor's office."

Guys, this isn't the middle of nowhere. Novosibirsk is a pretty big industrial city that, like most industrial cities in Russia, has fallen on hard times. Perfect place for the Scilons to put Criminon, especially since the Church itself isn't given an easy time by the Russians.

BTW: What's the status of Narconon in Russia? Last thing I read, the Russians weren't allowing them in to do that, despite the Russian predilections for substance abuse and saunas.

No time for bad translation right now, but Russian Wikipedia has a Narconon article: Нарконон — Википедия

Re: [LEGAL] [RUSSIA] prosecution wants the closure of a Scientology centre in Siberia

Translation of gazeta.ru post below

Quote:
The office of district attorney asks the court to close the Scientology center in Novosibirsk.

The attorney general of Novosibirsk district has petitioned the court to dissolve the non-commercial partnership "Center for social rehabilitation of persons with proven criminal past Criminon-Novosibirsk"

The goals of the organizations are education of members of society in the areas of morality, spiritual and moral improvement through dissemination of the "Criminon" program based on works of Ron Hubbard, the founder of Scientology. The partnership produces and distributes educational and promotional materials and engages in training of persons who wish to disseminate the "Criminon" program individually. According to some expert opinion, the partnership does use, as components of the educational process, Hubbard's courses, including the "Basic Study Manual" which can be be identified as an additional general education program.

In the psychological-pedagogic respect this program is antiscientific, potentially dangerous for psychological health of a person and is morally reprehensible, according to the prosecutor's office. "According to law, only organizations specifically licensed to do so are entitled to engage in educational practice. The non-commercial partnership "Center for social rehabilitation of people with proven criminal past Criminon-Novosibirsk" engages in educational activity in violation of law, without erecting the required educational institution and without an appropriate license, which is a flagrant violation of law that serves as the basis for court to decide the question of its dissolution" says the release from the district attorney's office.

Do you know who represents Novosibrisk in the Duma(Russian Parliment)?

This man right here:
