One of the major problems that I'm seeing in the forum is that people make suggestions all over the place. I'm sure that you've all seen this in action with the 102,182,091.01 threads posted in regards to the theme name for the May raid. While it's wonderful that people are posting things like that looking for a consensus it means that a lot of people miss posts and there's no way to create a real consensus. Especially when there are duplicate threads and multiple posts in multiple forums.

This applies to posts made in regards to suggestions for the forum/site itself, like additional forums or features. Unfortunately, we miss posts all the time.

The Site News, Announcements, and Discussion forum was created specifically to address the second part of the aforementioned issues, with the ability to help to address the first part. This is a forum that's woefully underutilized. Certainly it's where we post announcements but it's also a place for you to post suggestions, and for others to weigh in and discuss them.

So I encourage you to reply to this post or to create a new post with things that you'd like to see in the forum. Is there a feature you'd like, an additional forum, a consolidation of forums?

I can't promise that every request will be implemented but we can certainly discuss them all. With most things that effect the forum I'd prefer that decisions made are consensus driven. We're all working really hard to provide you this tool, but often times we're left in the dark about what you want. Which leaves us guessing and members annoyed at what may appear to be our ignoring requests.

I would love to see threads of the same topic merged on a regular basis. i don't know how many mods there are or how much time it would take but (it's great that) these forums are SO HUGE I know I miss a lot and it would be beyond helpful similar discussions could be merged. In addition, I also think the depth and breadth of discussions would be enriched by merging.

I also think it would be great if we could have an "Epic Win" thread. It would be really awesome to have place where all the fruits of our labor were able to be properly feasted on.

The best way to get this to happen is to report threads with the URL of the thread they should be merged with. It's a lot easier for us to see reports than it is to go through each forum looking for duplicate topics.

I agree. Go ahead and post one in the forum you want to see it in (maybe in the protest directory, like in the 3/15 forum for 3/15 epic wins) and I'll get it stickied.

one problem I have, and I'm not sure you can fix it, I'll reply to a particular post on page 3 when there is 12 pages... and when I'm done, it takes me to page 12, not back to page 3.

now, I know in some cases, read the effing thread... yeah... but in other cases, I came in late and want to make a relevant response...

is that possible?

I think the mods are doing a great job.

Some of the problems could be solved by posters themselves. Like, instead of creating a subforum for something that isn't really important enough for a whole subforum, a poster who was interested in that topic could make a directory thread with links to all the threads on that topic and ask for it to be closed and stickied. Then it would be simple to find those threads.

If these multiply too much, someone could even make a directory of directories and ask for that to be stickied, and then all the stickied directories could be unstuck.

Am I making any sense?

I think that everyone is all about people taking the initiative to do things like that, the issue starts when there's so many similar threads spread in different forums they become difficult to track. Which is what make subforums so useful. Of course this creates the issue of getting people to use the subforums, but... alas.

I kinda wonder if it would be possible for top-rated threads to be duplicated onto a "uber board" where all the best threads are held for 7 days. This would give people who aren't browsing every day an easy way to catch up on the best of Enturb and the hotest news/thoughts/etc.

Not sure it's doable, but it would be interesting if it was, and handy for the people who just want to skip past and see what's HAWT.

think tank should be more prominent -- people are always starting brainstorming sessions outside it that could maybe benefit from being in it, but i'm not sure a lot of people are aware of it.

also, thanks to mods and administration for everything you do, it's definitely appreciated!

Would it be reasonable to suggest a forum for the regional protests / zerg rush in Clearwater that might happen in July? Discussions about it have been splitting off into multiple threads lately.

completely agreed. My suggestion would be to have 'Current activism projects' be a forum that new threads can not be started in. Let the Think tank be the proving grounds for ideas and suggestions. Then we consolidate the ideas to a central area, and once something has some legs to it we can move it 'Current projects' which will be a clean forum of only actual ongoing efforts, rather than any idea conceivable.

We clean up and streamline 2 very important forums with one change.

Current Activism is labeled Discussion but is in up with the regional crap. If you want discussion, put it down in Discussion. Casual visitors can not drill into many subforums to find what they want. Flyers, etc is one big thread and a bunch of detritus. Breaking News and General Discussion are very similar. A thread could really go either way so police BN harder to make sure it's genuine BN.

A casual user will focus on those two forums and miss a bunch of good stuff. I did it myself for a while. I might go back to doing it summoar right nao.

Overall: fewer threads. Nuke them, kill them, raep them. Drive out the repetition and garbage. Don't go all Lowtax on 'em, just tighten' up. Fewer subforums. If people could behave and not spaz, General could be Think Tank. Media is another dumb one I never go into. Am I media? Is this media coverage from today? No, It is untraveled backwoods.

Can OP's have the power to change their own thread titles again? It worked on the old forum, but not anymore:/. It made it easier to update the thread when new information became available.

Also, it was nice to be able to fix typos without having to contact a mod.
