Enturbulation.org wants you!

There are far too many sub-forums. Far, far too many that are underused, mainly because there is a lack of demand for many of them.

The way they've been setup on the forum index is also pretty bad in terms of an information hierarchy. It shouldn't take so many clicks to get from the index to the information regarding the nearest protest.

I want Dell's Idea Storm for Enturbulation.org.

Many great ideas, posters, videos, flyers, projects don't always rise to the top & dispersed as widely or acted on. Much of the forums are tl;dr for many people. Getting our top ideas & materials out for those without enough time to spend all day on the forums (as much fun as it is).

I've been trying to find software that does this but have not been successful so far.

You add the enturb banner + nav + adsense + announcements + stickies..well my mouse wheel is starting to fall off due to this.

How to fix?

You need to limit or let me hide the announcements, I'm not a vbull guru so I have no clue.

You need an intro forum for true noobs that keeps sharks like me out (meaning super moderated and people are allowed to ask stupid / newb questions without fear). I would say if you have +1 post in TD you have no permissions to this newb forum :) call this the anti-dome...people are only allowed to be super nice. Rainbows and flowers and kittens...yes lots of lolcats here.

Forum sorting needs to be reworked. Announcements + Newbs+ Breaking news + Gen Disc need to be the top 4 forum blocks. I've sent people here who just ran away with the mass confusion that is trying to figure out where to post (and these are people who do want to get involved).

I'd almost suggest having a leftnav style for forum layout (choosable) between this top down and left nav in the user CP (durty).

You can ditch the New Posts link from the top too...it's a complete waste with the number of posts that go up every minute. Also the subscribe thread thing. Can I choose which ones I sub to, instead of every thread I post in (this might be my personal bitch and not something that needs to be fixed).

The stickies are kinda out of hand too. Really the stickies get so much traffic they'd be perma bumped any way. So limiting them to only earth shattering information.

Add pedo bear image to user CP link.

I would also recommend merging a bunch of the sub forums off topic+ humor and the Think tank + current activism forums are kind all over the place.

Oh and add infraction points for posting in breaking news when it's not breaking news. I would almost say don't allow creation in breaking news and only have threads moved there but you guys already have too much shit to do.

Finally and most importantly add a breathalizer device to Tamphex's keyboard that detects that he's about to post on enturb and a giant boot kicks him in the nads when he hits enter. This should only happen if his alcholol is .2 or greater.

^ I agree it is hard for anon to collectively push good content and sink bad content. We almost need a 'idea warz' forum where people can drop shit in and then see it dugg or not dugg, as the case may be.

Do you like the 'z' on the end of 'warz'? That makes it hip to today's youth, I'm told.

I've got vbullentin BBcode experience and a few friends of mine are forum geeks who have much more experience than I do who I can corral into my aid. They also know a bit about many other languages as well. (I "are" student to their techie goodness)

I believe we can put in a left side bar that can be hidden or shown by button, but that does cause a bit of lag on site uploadings for some.

We can eliminate the scroll on off-topic forum and archives though! Make them into categories and have the main forums listed as text and not shown open forum style like it now. Obviously someone wanting into the Humor threads don't care to see what the newest update is on the main page.

We can archive threads that haven't seen activity in X amount of time and prune threads without activity. This would kill the LONG pages of old threads.

If you guys at Enturb need some help, I could pitch in some of my day time... I've got loads of it! (Ahh, the relaxing life of not working)

You can set up difference levels of moderation and levels of moderator access/powers easily, if the site heads are worried about the addition of staff.

But, I think we can all deal if the Own's like it the way it bloody is! :D

I think the liberal use of explatives does a fine job in ensuring your post is ageless.

The addition of the Z might perhaps be overkill and seen as overcompensation. Like using greatian formula or doing a comb over on a bold spot.

If leet speak + explatives are intermixed throught out many posts it might work better.

But yeah, anyway, I'd love a sort of mega-compilation-of-enturb-win threads either through a specific HAWT forum for the coolest, hottest and bestest of topics, or through some digg type mechanism. I dunno.

Either way, I also think we should reorder and jiggle the forums around a bit to make them a bit more user friendly. No solid idea how right now.

Hall of fame would be cool. I can get behind that idea but that's yet another forum!

Encourage the use of thread ratings and we could use a filter to highlight threads with the HAWT.

I just want to say thank you to everyone that uses the report button

1) Planning sub-forums month-by-month - This way, people will be more likely to be aware of what others are planning alongside themselves - and maybe conflict won't arise because multiple parties are already well along their tracks - it'll keep closely related threads in the same sub-forums

2) Polls - several polls I've seen are two yes/no to an idea, rather than pulling together multiple options - I wonder if polls shouldn't be pre-moderated - dunno about that one - tricky - but part of this is 'cos defferent people said should we do (x) yes/no.

3) Demerit points for anyone who says other people SHOULDN'T be planning something because {whatever} - and jumping on the posters of same.

4) structured calling for ideas etc - without 'leading' enturb mods should maybe be more involved in facilitating discussions - I don't see any harm in enturb mods starting threads which develop and narrow the focus of some idea that's being battered around - possibly with locking of existing threads - just be cautious around avoiding the appearance of lending weight/leadership to the actual outcomes.

Bah - it's 4am - I'll read this tomorrow and think I was talking crap prob - as always.

In your User CP, under Options, there is a "Default Thread Subscription Mode", you have yours set to something other then Do Not Subscribe, set it to do not subscribe and it will no longer auto subscribe you to every thread you posted in.

Combine the planning and post-report threads by month. Post-report threads don't seem to get enough love and people tend to put pictures from the protests in the planning thread.

I'd also suggest making the search button flash in neon green but I don't know if VB will let you.

You're welcome. Do not be afraid of the button.

It seems a bit like "narcing on" in other forums so I normally shy away, but here it actually gets results since the report lands right on the janitor's desk and they can get the bag of red sawdust to sweep up the vomit. I report dupes like a madman when I have enough time to pay close attention and they are legion.

Search doesn't always work well (4 character minimum is crap) and you have to be a maniac surfer to know where or if the original thread was. So if you are here often, use the and don't be afraid. If one of your reports is lame, the mods will sort it out themselves and do nothing. If they are always lame, they will tell you. It will be ok.

Yes. The only reason we had to take Mimi down last week was in order to properly host reconnect.org -- in the future all scheduled maintenance will be done during low-traffic hours over a non-protest weekend.
