Give us too many places to post vaguely-related things and we will post them everywhere possible without regard for boundaries.

As they say in design, less is more.

Personally I think there are too many subforums. Some are very fast moving while others barely move at all.

Often people choose what they think is the appropriate subforum, look at the first page to check for reposts and then make the thread. Then you end up with the same thread in 3 different forums. Merging just ruins the flow of the thread and makes reading it fairly difficult.

Just my 0.02

I would support the idea of a "epic wins so far" thread where we document MAJOR wins in a sticky somewhere

IMHO if people did searches first, yeah I've been guilty before of not searching in my excitement, it would cut down on the threads.

As for posting, enturb got me out of forum retirement. It can be a big drain on your emotions when you get too involved in the inevitable drama. I like what enturb offers to the common person who does afraid of other Chanology sites. Just clean it up harder. Make it go right! There are lots of people here who don't normally do this kind of thing but want to speak up or ask questions. They need to loosen up and let go because enturb is a strange hybrid fruit that has new juices they might like. If they can find them.

Agreed agreed agreed so many kids of agreed. This is what I came here to post. I think we need a newb section with tutorials (of all kinds!) and maybe a "safe spot" for those who don't want to join the Anonymous style of posting. The safe spot could be a subforum in that forum where a team of mods or mini-mods or something kept it updated with planning threads (edited summaries or just necessities) and bad language would be banninated.

It would be useful I think because someone could come to the forum with the intent in mind of spending 30 minutes or an hour just getting down to business without being distracted, and get a heck of alot done.

THIS too. When I first joined up there was a good thread of current running "ops" with a summary and link to the thread so you could get down to business. Maybe could just use the "Safe spot" idea I posted above.

Also seconding forums for multiple languages. =) I myself am not bilingual but I'm sure it would be helpful in getting other folks involved.

Actually, now that I think about it;

in order to prevent having a separate forum that needs lots of mods to clean things up and keep people updated, what about a clean wordfilter that all users have the option to turn on or off? The only thing this wouldn't help with is language in pics, but maybe if people were told to warn for language in photos and then just provide a thumbnail, that might be better.

Plus you could have some really crazy wordfilters. =P

This is a difficult one.

Threads get too long. I often want to find out the progress on a topic, but I don't want to read 15 pages of people giving their general opinions.

Moar mods. Seriously. We need some OCD mods to straighten out threads. I was a global mod on a forum half this size and I have NO IDEA how you guys are doing it.

The Local & Miscellaneous Protest page is arranging itself by Thread Title and not by last post. It's just that one forum, no others.

With the forum layout change up that I did most of the issues posted in this thread so far have been addressed.

There are a few things we're still working on, so stay tuned.

Also: are the large regional zergrushes confirmed yet or still just in the talking about it stages? we'll set up forums for them once confirmed.

We tend to write and release press releases as they're needed. Having dedicated forums for things like that tend to fail as they don't get much attention. Press releases are written by one person, brought to the forum for a consensus on the message and then usually passed on to gregg who has a database of like a zillion reporters that he then emails the PR out to.

So far so good with the forum rejig. One thing though: there's still a lot of duplication of purpose with Think Tank and Current Activism Discussion. Think Tank threads that have generated a lot of support and entered into early planning should be moved to Current Acitivism Discussion, shouldn't they?

My suggestion:
Obviously youtube is a powerful tool for us. If we can get a video to the front page - one that exposes scientology and educates the public - that's huge.

To help accomplish that, you could have a "Enturb youtube video pick of the day for rating & favoriting" sticky topic at the top of your most popular sub-thread. Or even make it a sub-thread of it's own off the main page.
You admins pick one video for targeting...something like this one:

YouTube - Scientology: Jason Beghe Interview Tease

The goal is explained to members that the video is being targetted with the hopes of getting it onto the youtube front page, so it's important that we all go after on that day with all guns blazing. Inform folks it's legal to have multiple youtube accounts (wink wink).

If the video is a success, it could be kept as the target for multiple days to try to extend it's front page run. If it doesn't make the front page of youtube, it's replaced with a new video and the topic title is changed to reflect a new video target is in place (maybe advance a number in the title, or include a date).

We have power in numbers, let's leverage that power by learning to focus it in...intensify it through precision targetting. Operation Video Front Page
