Link to Scientology.org on Frontpage?

Maybe somebody forgot about it but there is a link to http:// www scientology.org on the frontpage of Scientology Activism and Organization | Enturbulation.org !

If you must link to that glossary at least add a rel="nofollow" or use a redirect script like you do with the banners.

Why it's bad:

It gets people on scientology .org which is bad by default.
It gives scientology .org more pagerank which results in a higher position in search engines.

It gives people the chance to hear both sides of the story.

Re: Link to Scientology.org on Frontpage?

Firefox 3 is heavy on the prefetching "feature", although it was present to a lesser degree in v2. Does anyone know if prefetching is allowed to cross domains while it spiders across the current page? Would be bad if people are unknowingly gobbling the link'd site.

My gut says that Mozilla wouldn't be that stupid, but I'm not a web designer or anything.

according to that wiki page, firefox will only prefetch if the link has rel=prefetch, or you use fasterfox and enable prefetching all links. If that still holds true, then it doesn't have rel=prefetch, and we arn't going to protect people if they enable something that could have that adverse side effect anyways.

Link prefetching FAQ - MDC
Quote:
Will Mozilla prefetch documents from a different host?

Yes. There is no same-origin restriction for link prefetching. Limiting prefetching to only URLs from the the same server would not offer any increased browser security.

Do prefetched requests contain a Referer: header?

Yes, prefetched requests include a HTTP Referer: header indicating the document from which the prefetching hint was extracted.

This may impact referrer tracking that is commonly used on many sites. For this reason, link prefetching may not be appropriate for all content. However, it is possible to instruct Mozilla to validate a prefetched document when the user follows a href to the prefetched document by specifying the Cache-control: must-revalidate HTTP response header. This header enables caching, but requires an If-Modified-Since or If-None-Match validation request before the serving the document out of the browser's cache.
does this mean what i think it means?

Re: Link to Scientology.org on Frontpage?

p.s. how to [supposedly] turn off prefetching for firefox- Firefox makes unrequested connections

1. In the Location bar, type about:config, and press EnterReturn.

* The about:config "This might void your warranty!" page may appear. Click "I'll be careful, I promise!", to continue to the about:config page.

2. In the about:config page, search for the preference network.prefetch-next.

3. Observe the Value column of the network.prefetch-next row.
* If it is set to false then do nothing.
* If it is set to true, double-click on it to set it to false.

true is default.

What two sides? the bad side and the bad side? Heads I win tails you lose? That kind of sides? Being nice to Scientology is like being nice to piranha fish. Look no fingers.

This is not a problem on enturbulation.org -

Quote:
Firefox will prefetch certain links if any of the web sites you are viewing uses the special prefetch-link tag. For more information, please see the Link Prefetching FAQ. To disable prefetching:
Quote:
No, only <link> tags with a relation type of next or prefetch are prefetched. However, if there is sufficient interest, we may expand link prefetching support to include prefetching <a> tags, which include a relation type of next or prefetch in the future. Doing so would probably help content providers avoid the problem of stale prefetching links.
(from the FAQ)

Enturb does NOT use next or prefetch relationships on any external links so you are not at risk on this site, No users can add HTML to posts.
A quick review of a few pages in fact shows we only use rel="stylesheet" for css and rel="nofollow" (for external links tagged with the little (STOP) logo)

you can spot these yourself by looking for rel="prefetch" or rel="next" in the html source, ie :

Code:
<link rel="prefetch" href="/images/big.jpeg">
