Thank You for Breaking Up Breaking News

Perhaps it would be helpful to put breaking news in the title of the forum? IE Breaking News and Activism? I don't hang here 24/7 so when I clicked to get my daily dose of breaking news I was lost...had I not spotted the complaints department and the link above I'd still be hunting around. The way it is divided is helpful, but I would never have thought to look in Activism for Breaking News....in my version of English the two don't go together. That would be like CNN putting their breaking news banner in the Living section....

I think the real problem for most folks is they had no warning of the change. At least in the forums they actually read.

And while we generally like surprises that are expected, e.g., birthday gifts, we don't really like getting surprised by the familiar suddenly being different with no warning ahead of time.

That said, I only get short breaks at work. So the fewer places I have to look for 'Breaking News', the better.

If you ignore the archives and the protest planning forums then there are 27 forums and sub-forums. Please for the love of god tell me how that is easy to navigate. Its just a wall of text when you're on the index page.

click breaking news scroll threw endless amounts of crap trying to find anything relevant to anything remotely Chanology related good stuff getting deleted and moved all around hell and highwater then back again reading "BBBBBBBAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWW this isn't BREAKING NEWS" in every thread reading "DOME THIS THIS ISN'T BREAKING NEWS DOOOOME" in 50% of the threads, scrolling through endless discussion of where the thread you are currently reading belongs

the mods UNRETARDED the thread organization only the retards who made it necessary in the first place will get upset

After 15 mins staring at the screen I finally found this thread. I liked BN too and it was my first port of call, followed by my local thread.

Now how will I know if TC's antics with Katie Holmes is more important than DM's dirty laundry? (SKIDMARKS!) :cloud:

I like the new setup. It is nice and orderly. For anyone bitching about having to browse several forums, it isn't like a couple extra clicks will kill you. Just learn to use tabs for Xenu's sake.

It does look really nice and organized, but I really DID enjoy the "old" Breaking News and miss it. I could always find the things I wanted in there. Now there's too many places to go, It was great, Breaking News and General discussion. Sometimes I would just kind pingpong between them. I don't spose we could go back to that?

i think the change was much-needed and makes the organization easier.

fair gaming incidents and raids needed MORE prominence. that shit is WAY more important than whether we get three inches of blogspace in the village voice again, or whether miley cyrus might be getting propositions by john travolta.

this WAY MORE IMPORTANT shit was getting continually buried.

i know there are a lot of forums to navigate here. that's a good thing. i don't pretend i can always keep up with everything either -- but with better division of topics, the most important things will rise to the top of their little forums and won't be missed as easily.

give it a try for a week. if you still hate it, come back and bawwww some more.

I didnt like this at first, but after a few minutes it quickly grew on me. I was able to quickly view threads that were getting lost in the mix. I'm all for this now.

It's also worth noting that if there's a category you don't read frequently (Archives is a good example), you can click the little circular arrow on the right side of the category heading; this will minimize the category, and shrink down your list a tiny bit. :)

BN is still there, it's just compartmentalized into relevant sections.

My biggest problem with it (other then the fact that I just plain don't like it, which I'll get over in a day or two) is that it's now compartmentalized, but there aren't compartments for everything. At the very least I think we need some sort of general BN section for stories that don't fit into the other categories. Example, if it were like this when the asbestos story broke, or Jason's interview came out, or the Texas resolution came out, etc etc, where would they go. Media? But it's not media (well, Jason was a bad example as I guess that is, but you know what I mean). Raids? Nothing to do with Raids. Fair Game? Nothing to do with Fair Game.

Breaking News, as it was, could have easily been seen as the central hub of Chanology. That central hub is now gone.
