Re: Andrew Morton on book banning
I bought it just to support the publisher and Morton for not backing down to the Co$. Not sure how good it is as I haven't gotten to it yet.

I heard some good things and liked the excerpt. Wanted to order it but never got around to it. Here's the excerpt for those that want to check it out.

Re: Andrew Morton on book banning
I bought it off of ebay.
It's pretty interesting, I have to say. It's not overly critical of Cruise himself (aside from asserting that he's a CONTROL FREAK and a JERK for discarding former friends), and blames most of his awkward/crazy behaviour on Scientology. It paints Kidman, Holmes and Rodgers (Cruise's wives) as victims of a cult, and is overall a good introduction to the inner workings of Scientology. The media made a huge deal about allegations that Suri was conceived with frozen hubbard sperm, but in actual act, this is only mentioned in passing as a 'possibility' about 2 pages from the end. Sure makes Tom sound crazy, though, it has some lulz. Morton has some fun with Cruises homophobia, bringing the subject up about 5 times throughout the book. I, for one, never knew that Tom had a school friend who died in the September 11 attacks. There's about 1/2 chapter on his other school friends reactiong to the fact he never bought it up in the media. |

Re: Andrew Morton on book banning
I bought it just to support the cause...it's now making the rounds of my friends and then I would be willing to mail it across the Pond. Unfortunately I can't figure out how to get the Postalpeople to deliver it to: Anonymous, 88 Anonymous Lane, Village of Anonymous, Somewhere Over There
If you have any suggestions let me know. EDIT: wait...maybe Stu wants it...he's already namefagged...Stu if you want the book PM me.

Re: Andrew Morton on book banning
You realise that's the actual cover of the book, only upside down? The real cover has Tom's chin, text in the middle, then the top of his face on the bottom.

Re: Andrew Morton on book banning
I purchased it, and it is in fact a good book. The "Rosemary's Baby" hoopla in the media is indeed a passing reference, which Morton asserts is the view of a few Scilons, and that it is unlikely since Suri looks NOTHING like L. Ron, and is almost the spitting image of her parents. Morton also comes out strongly in TC's defense, stating he's straight as an arrow, but is perhaps to defensive. The other accusation, that TC is the #2 scilon, is clearly stated by Morton to be HIS perception of TC, and not an actual, official position he holds within the church, but that he operates as if he were the 2nd in command.

Tom and Nicole tried for a baby for 10 years, then adopted. It was quite well known that Tom was infertile. Many people think that Nicole was pregnant with another persons baby in the end (when she miscarried) and that it lead to the divorce because Tom knew it couldn't be his being infertile all those years. I've got the book, to be honest the beginning is really boring... i'm now getting into the juicy scientology stuff.. which is more interesting.

Re: Andrew Morton on book banning
I just finished the book last week. After reading about Scientology by those who escaped, I was not surprised by anything in the book and it's all quite tame to me. I thought Morton treated Cruise fairly and the feeling I got was Morton attributes Cruise's affiliation with Scientology to his strong desire to belong to a "group". The shockers I got were Nicole has frequent panic attacks, is not a particularly warm, insightful person (entitled), and also had a prior pregnancy mishap kept private from the public (before the publicized miscarriage). Oh and Mimi Roger's (and her dad's) strong history with the cult. To be quite frank, I find Cruise's life not interesting but for the Scientology affiliation. He's appears in life as a bland and blank actor looking for some lifetime role...a man seeking a drama to appear in. heh, guess he got one.
