i'll bet we agree
they need to pay taxes or make fair-share donations to the local school districts
they get all those public services (ie police protection, fire protection, roads etc)
and they DO NOT PAY for it
(i feel almost the same about the Catholics in terms of taxes, and am now wondering if they own yankee stadium, but that is a topic for another day)

when i see all the massive real estate the Scientologists own in hollywood
millions and millions and millions of dollars--maybe billions, i do not know, but it is a LOT
and then see the condition of the neighborhood schools around
their digs it literally makes me sick
they STEAL FROM public schools
Californians believe in public education.

(readers: most of hollywood is pretty scrappy; not fancy, hard-working people, kids that deserve a decent education--i'm talking teachers paying for supplies and all that. not rich, not fancy. not white. celebrity center hood is pretty nice and more stable in terms of longer-term residents, except of course the OBVIOUS scientology-logoed apts adjacent to the castle.)

I just fired off this email the foundation that gave the grant.

Oh...and I promised the journalist who is writing these pieces his own meme if he does an interview with Jason Beghe :-).
