Well folks, there is an epic win for us in Quebec City this morning which shall increase our numbers over 9000. I don't have the newspaper yet, but it's on the frontpage (Cyberpresse) of the website already. I will go buy the paper later this morning and scan it for everyone to see. An Anonymous cell based in Québec City recently took form to fight against the Church of Scientology.

On the group’s website (Anonymous Quebec), recently put online, we can read that « this social network is used for the organization and activism against the cult of Scientology in Québec City» and that the goal of these actions is to «expose and document the infractions of the cult in Canada and as well as in the rest of the world».

On the phone, this week, a member of Anonymous say the the group, allegedly present in over 25 countries, is made of about 50 members in Montréal and about 10 in Québec City.

According to the young man, who prefer to not reveal his identity (!), Anonymous is «a leaderless group who organizes on the internet». «Everybody can be Anonymous. There is no membership card», said our interlocutor, which we will call Georges.

The idea of a war against the Church of Scientology germinated after the latter made efforts to withdraw of the Internet a video showing one of its most famous followers, actor Tom Cruise, bragging, in a fanatic tone, the merits of Scientology.

Not tolerating the idea that someone is preventing them from watching Tom Cruise ridiculing himself, internet users of all sorts mobilized against the Church of Scientology, attacking various Church websites to prevent visitors from accessing them. Rallies were quickly organized in many cities around the word to fight against the Church behaviors. «The Church is not only famous for its long history of censorship, but also for its disinformation campaigns and diffused misconceptions about medicine, “ says Georges.

At their demonstrations, members of Anonymous wear a mask in the likeness of the hero of the comic book V for Vendetta. On their website, Anonymous says that if its members hide their faces, it is because "the Church of Scientology sometimes attacks those who protest against its activities".

"They hunt us, harass us. If you disagree with the Church, beware that they don’t discover your identity; you might become a target of their policy. The Church of Scientology is extremely rich, has a powerful team of lawyers and is known for prosecuting anything that moves, " can we still read on Anonymous Quebec.

A (peaceful) event should take place on July 12th in front of the Church of Scientology in Québec, rue Saint-Joseph Est. "It is hoped that this time, the police will not move us, as they did last time," says Georges.
