EDUCATION Minister Jane Lomax-Smith has been caught on tape declaring Scientologists "should be taxed, the bastards".

Footage from a video recorded during a protest on May 10 by internet activist group Anonymous has emerged which shows Dr Lomax-Smith casually chatting to protesters in Adelaide.

Clearly not a fan of the controversial Church of Scientology, Dr Lomax-Smith asks protesters how frequently they gather and exclaims, "oh, it's great".

She then asks about the protest group, which is dedicated to "dismantling and destroying" the Church of Scientology.

Dr Lomax-Smith tells protesters: "They should be taxed, the bastards. They shouldn't be tax-free, we're subsidising them."

She then says: "I like your masks."

In an emailed statement issued today, Dr Lomax-Smith said: "It was a private conversation and I was expressing a personal view. There's nothing more to add."

Pity she didn't turn up at the last protest though =|

The timing is a little strange, seeing as that footage was from May, but we all remember what happend last time the Advertiser reported on our activities!! ;) They're probably try to play it safe but I hope they get more reporters out there in the future protests.

I'm not sure if I'll be making it to the next one due to event planning but I'll be personally extending an invitation to her and a few other MPs and MLCs to attend August's event.

I got a google alert on this the other day. From the article, it appears that she didn't know she was being taped.

If that is true, releasing this...and causing her work-related trouble... doesn't seem like the best decision. Why should she trust anonymous now? Forcibly outing politicians that can help will work against the cause.

If she knew she was being taped, and is just covering her ass, then nevermind.

If she was unaware then it is unfortunate, but with the cat out of the bag it would seem time to support her statement and her candor. If apologies must be made, then let them be made with an acknowledgment that she simply gave voice to what so many have related off camera and on the internets.

Obvious Co$ card to play is obvious.

We should be looking at how to counteract the incoming deluge of "religious persecution" allegations that are going to come against a courageous politician who was speaking the words that are already on everybody's mind. Send her documentation on NarCONon, CrimAnon, and most importantly Applied Scholastics with which to support her opinion and with which, if they get really out of hand with Fair Gaming her, she can call for investigations into their practices and status as a tax exempt organization.

Definitely, she needs to get much support from all of us, and documentation to show that scientology IS NOT A RELIGION, and therefore no religious persecution is taking place. And I am sure that that is already occurring...

I hope she doesn't get in to trouble for this. I don't know how politics work in Aussie, being from UK, but our politicians would only make such statements off the record. I will phone my support to her though, might help to know people in the UK are watching and we are behind her.
