Re: Freewinds -- US Team to Clean Asbestos

Freewinds is registered at the port of Panama City, Panama. The idea that any U.S. safety bureau like OSHA implements air testing aboard that vessel is, or that it's even subject to the US Clean Air Act is, well.... It's fucking patronizing that they think people are going to believe this idiotic PR fappage.

Does it ever berth at a US port? Yeah, that's what I thought. Sea Arrrgh! Ahoy!

Please DO correct me if I'm wrong here.

They did not find any airborne traces of asbestos on the ship (including living quarters and ventilation systems).
I thought I've read that the asbestos was -also- found in the ventilation shafts recently.

Plus: If $ci was aware that these people would come for investigation, how 'easy' would it be for them too make the people onboard that ship to clean it out fully?

Re: Freewinds -- US Team to Clean Asbestos

They did not find airborne traces when a survey was done LAST YEAR.

They became airborne in the recent refitting. Bad luck for the cult: CMD employees were around who did object to walking around in asbestos dust, so now they have to clean stuff up.

Your plus: Cleaning up asbestos is pretty darn difficult as I understand from varioud posts.

Re: Freewinds -- US Team to Clean Asbestos

It has been reported above, that the company doing the work is AirQuest Envionmental. A quick check of their website makes it clear that they are a small company and they use sub-contractors for actual remediation work. Hmmmm, wonder who they have “hired” to do the actual work….

AirQuest Environmental, Inc.
3030 Southwest 19th Street
Fort Lauderdale, Florida 33312
Phone: 954-792-4549
Fax: 866-461-2791
Toll Free: 877-247-8146
adrienne@airquestinc.com

And no, of course OSHA in the US would have no direct jurisdiction over the ship, but it makes for lousy Sic Inc. PR.

Let's push this into the light folks. Here is a list of TV station and newspaper emails from the largest media markets in the US, plus a few special cities and international outlets. Hit these guys with emails until someone breaks the story in the "mainstream press".

It just a matter of numbers folks. You get your message to enough people, eventually, someone will be interested enough to run with it. Just like in sales. You just have to have the numbers! Give them the freewinds story, give them this update. Tell them the fear is, without confirmation of what firm is doing the clean up work, that they will use thier own internal slave labor who are not qualified, not paid more than 50 a week and may include child workers! Here's the list, just copy and paste into your address line, semi colons included!

I HAVE WRITTEN A PRESS RELEASE FOR THIS

uses old news to us but get it the fuck out their

PRESS RELEASE**********
Dear New Station's across the globe,

For the past 20 years , Scientology has known about the existence of the asbestos on their cruise ship, yet has done nothing about it but cover it up.

The scientology owned and operated cruise ship, the Freewinds, was docked in the Caribbean during refurbishing. " blue asbestos was released and ended up in the ventilation system.

Freewinds’ captain did not report this when it’s own personnel were working on the ship on the Mathey warf in Otrobanda."[1]

This dangerous chemical was first discovered by Lawrence Woodcraft , a former Scientologist and trained Architect, in 1987 and he promptly informed Scientology leaders[2].

here are some quotes from that legal document

"No one on the ship knew anything about asbestos, nor did they care. I thought to myself, the Church has been tricked into buying a cruise ship for $11 million that is a total liability,

that is so full of lethal asbestos, the only option is to sink it in deep water. If asbestos remains permanently wet it is not dangerous, it is dangerous when dried out and flaking,

releasing fibers in the air that are then breathed in. To me this seemed a daunting, enormous problem. How could the church possibly bring their public parishioners to this ship

and expose them to such a hazardous substance. I thought that the legal liability alone would terrify them "

And here is another quote from that document

"We had a meeting to discuss the problem of asbestos. Steve Kisacky stated that L. Ron Hubbard doesn't state in policy that asbestos is dangerous;

he only states that fiberglass is dangerous and therefore we are only removing the fiberglass"

They have shown no remorse for their actions, exposing workers, staff, and celebrities to this dangerous chemical.

It's reasonable to assume a class action lawsuit will be in the works soon.

Guys please. Do a reality check.

At least four specialized companies are involved, although I admit at least two of them are small companies (Welcome to Selikor Website is another).

But get real. There's just no way that Co$ is getting RPF'ers on this. Not with the spotlights on them. CDM is pissed. Goverment is involved. Press is watching.

I know the fuckers would love to, but right now, it's being handled by pros.

Sargo, a press release has been released already. I'll edit it in once I find it.

Guys, I hate these fuckers no less than you, but take a step back please. We don't have our facts straight. I'd like a bit more pics or it didn't happen attitude on this one.

I can already smell the spin they're going to put on this.

The angle by CoS is likely going to be them insisting that all of these old ships have asbestos, that everybody's always known and its been monitored, and that as soon as the local authorities told them they had to act, they did. In other words, they'll rely on this " it was monitored" shit, and the fact that nobody but a small local government seems to give a crap about this. If they smell an easy way to slip a few bucks to the right place and have a few meter readings altered? I bet that could happen too. The fact that nobody except puny local media wants to put eyes on this means they can get away with a heck of a lot.

This all distracts from the truth that even if it WAS known, even if it WAS monitored, that they chose money over doing what the overwhelming majority of ship owners of ships of this vintage did--scrapping these ships as too potentially dangerous. That's the real story more than meter readings of what DID or DIDN'T escape. The triumph of greed over public safety, because a grade Z sci-fi author said it was "okay", because he apparently was the "authority" on cancer, just as much as "the mind".

Another news cycle passes and once again no major media have even made an effort. The tracklist topic should have been stuffed FULL of media reports, by any normal standards, I think. If even reminders that U.S. citizens HAVE been affected (even if not with any likely deadly exposure--but just subject to the POTENTIAL should be newsworthy enough), INCLUDING celebrities, hasn't stirred them? Nothing will, I fear.

Dox plox. It's not that I doubt you; I just want confirmation and names ASAP. Maybe they can help us out by confirming the details of Woodcraft's story on the extent of the asbestos.

Re: Freewinds -- US Team to Clean Asbestos

Sorry for spamming this thread. But...I am pretty sure authorities on Curacao are taking this serious. They exposed CMD people to asbestos. It's a small island. Everybody is pissed off.

Having said that, I'd love to hear more from Peter Schilte, the Dutch OG, who initiated the survey of last year. Andreas hasn't approved me yet on OCMB (I HATE that). I'd love to hear what Peter exactly told authorities last year. I think he'd also be the most appropriate person to reiterate a few things to the Ministry of Transport and Traffic over there.

Could somebody make a post to this nature on OCMB? Thanks.

Second edit: Selikor is mentioned on OCMB.

Re: Freewinds -- US Team to Clean Asbestos

I do know someone who has been exposed to asbestos. In talking with him about this he said that the standard procedure to pass these things is to turn off the engine during inspections so that any loose asbestos settles out of the air. Apparently this a standard op for many years until someone caught on.

I understand your desire for a reality check. I'm not sure about who is watching, but I know that, to date, the press certainly is not. I don't think a small local paper on an island and some industry blog counts as having the media's attention.

Scientology Inc. gets away with plenty of violations of law in the US alone. I'm far from convinced that a few government officials are an assurance of anything being done on the up and up. I think the only key here, is to do what we can to make sure the press is, in fact, watching.

Right now, virtually no one knows about this at all, especially the folks who have been exposed! Again, I think the key here is to simply try to get the message out, loudly and often, to the mainstream media and the poor folks who have been exposed and won't find out about it from their "church".

I really thought the Anons in Plymouth did a wonderful thing, calling their local org to try to warn them about the issue so folks might have a chance to get checked out. Was a waste of time, as it turned out, but it was not a waste of time. They tried, and that's more than anyone else is going to do for the people inside. Any lulz that results is just a bonus.

I think that is the big point! Specifically, on this issue, getting the point out to as many as possible so that:

1. As many people who have been exposed as possible have a chance to visit a doctor and get screened before it is too late. How many people will miss that chance, only find out way down the road because they are really ill, and find out it is
