Re: What hit You the hardest?

I suppose I'm different from most of you in that I actively avoided the various chans -- thought all of you were just a bunch of pranking script kiddies who needed to grow up. And I do think at the time, i.e. pre-2008, you did. But then you started to find out what people such as myself knew, i.e. that $cientology was evil and dangerous and something to try to fight to abolish, and that was the key moment in which all of you grew up and actually started to do things that were awesome and great. And the fact that you guys have been making good use of your pranking script kiddie ways is -- thank you.

I actually remember lurking on ars for a long, long time. I remember Tory's old posts when she was still "in", and thinking, "Ok, who is this crazy Magoo person?" So to see her here on this website, now "out", now an activist, and now with all her wits about her, is just about the most historic event ever. Next to that, I remember seeing Jason Beghe listed in Tilman Hausherr's "Hall Of Shame" and thinking that he was yet another lost Hollywood culty type for so long, but seeing him "blow" and get off the Hall Of Shame? Another historic event.

There are too many negative moments for me to really narrow down to one specific one re: $cientology -- there was the Time cover story when I found out about that boy who lept off the top of that hotel roof clutching the only money in the world he hadn't given to $cientology, then there were the lessons in my high school comparative religions class when we learned about the hallmarks of a "cult" and, after watching an in-class doc on Jonestown, realizing that Jim Jones sounded an awful lot like L. Ron Hubbard, then there was my own independent research on the Internet and seeing how much shit happened behind the cult's closed doors, then Lisa McPherson's story got out and I saw the autopsy photos and was haunted by them, and I had all of this information and knew for sure that $cientology was dirty and evil and nasty, but I had no way of knowing what to do about it all until you guys popped up.

So I guess that means a big thank you to you pranking script kiddies for finally bringing the numbers and organization the anti-culty people have needed for so long. Now I know what I can do about this and am committed to actively helping you.
