Re: Jason Beghe to Scientology Mouthpiece Tommy Davis: 'You're Losing Your Soul'
For me, this is simple.
Yes, Tommy Davis looked abused.
However:
I am not willing to be open-armed about this.
CoS management are committing criminal acts at an astounding rate and those acts are directed towards other people who are made to suffer. It's not about retribution, it's about justice towards the victims. Tommy Davis babbling on CNN and lying is merely stupidity. It's what he *may* be doing in terms of fair game, hurting other CoS members and illegal cover-ups that concern me.
I will be considerate towards Mike Rinder, Tommy Davis etc. when they call up the FBI for immunity, testify in court or do something else to redeem themselves. Otherwise, they belong in a jail cell until they understand that society cannot tolerate that level of violence towards others.
I agree they are under incredible pressure to conform. The same situation is true for schoolyard bullies and anyone else who finds themselves in a malignant group.
The Nuremberg trials did not allow "they made me do it" as a defense against war crimes. It was a mitigating circumstance ONLY [and we're talking here about a whole country--no wog world to flee to] that lessened the sentence--not an excuse.
Tory came clean and *said* she spammed for CoS. Her honesty is what makes everyone want to enfold her. Her understanding of what she did, and how that affected people is the reason we can be pretty sure she won't repeat the behaviour.
Jason Beghe didn't throw people into RPF to be tortured. He wasn't management. His only "bad act" was that of belonging to a group that he later found out was abusive. Then he blew. He courageously went public and actively discourages other people from joining. That is his redemption. That's why people think he's such an amazing fellow.
Until someone stops their behavior and does what they can to fix it and make reparations to the victims there is no guarantee they won't repeat that behavior outside of those circumstances.
It's okay to make mistakes and sometimes to be ignorant of what's going on. It's NOT okay to deliberately harm others or be willfully blind to abuse. When it happens, as humans we must do our best to make that up to them and the society we live in then move forward.
There's a line between compassion and gullibility.
