Operation: Crossword
Guys,
My father really loves to do the NY crossword. It occurs to me that someone who's good as such things could create a crossword puzzle with an Anonymous/CO$ theme. This would be lulzy on many levels. First, it will drive all the snobby puzzle fanatics nuts because none of them know any $ci trivia. Second, we get to expose cult abuses to the word. Third, if done correctly, the puzzle could point to a web site such as xenu.net as part of the circled clues, thus letting puzzle fanatics find more info about the cult. |

Re: Operation: Crossword
There are plenty of sites online which do offer this service and more: they're quick and easy to use. Making up puzzle books to give out to the public at protests could be a fun way to raise awareness, as they would have to go off and use their heads to complete it.

Re: Operation: Crossword
I've been thinking about giving out the puzzle as a flyer for a month or two before sending it to the NYT. I've got a REALLY lulzy layout that all Anons would instantly recognize.
I've found a product called Crossdown which is a "professional puzzle maker". I'll order a copy. Does professional mean people get paid for NYT puzzles? Kewl. IAC, I'll be working on it over the next while. I'm thinking some of the lulzy clues could be URLS like "YOUFOUNDTHECARDDOTCOM" or "XENUDOTNET". Suggestions, gaiz? Re: Operation: Crossword
I love crosswords and am pretty good at making them. I submitted 2 to a newspaper and they were printed (no pay though). I've never done one on a computer, but I could make one on graph paper and scan it. Then one of you could walk me through how to upload it, maybe clean it up?

Re: Operation: Crossword
FormerlyIN,
We meet again. I work cheap ;-) Seriously though, One of the reasons I want to get this Crossdown software is that I can then do a screen capture of the layout, which I'm sure anons will find a scream. At $55 it's relatively cheap. If you're going to scan an image, make sure you're going to mark it in large letters with a decent ink marker so it's visible to the scanner. Uploading a puzzle image can be done on a number of sites, such as tinypic. I suggest you work on the puzzle first, then get it all squared away before we worry about the upload bit. |

Re: Operation: Crossword
I need to limit the number of meme-related posts simply because the puzzle needs way more "ordinary" clues for the software to be able to generate suggestions for fillers.
If I'm able to make it to the 12th (still up in the air), I'll bring along my preliminary puzzle outline for local Anons to see. Should be lulzy. I'm going to see if I can create an outline using Microsoft Word. I'm not sure how I'll do the final product yet. UPDATE: It works! Now, would Anons prefer a document as a Word format or a PDF format? Any easy way to convert Word to PDF? Ideally, I'd like to create a puzzle that Anons could simply download and print on a flyer. One side with the puzzle and the back with the solutions. Last edited by Major Boyle; 07-07-2008 at 05:12 PM. |

Re: Operation: Crossword
You can convert Word to PDF by installing something like Cute PDF to create PDFs right from Word. Free, too, at least Cute PDF is.

Re: Operation: Crossword
I've found something called Universal Document Converter that I might get. Not only does it make PDFs, but it can make GIFFs and JPGS out of the document.
I've finished the basic puzzle (layout of where black squares go). Once I get Crossdown, I'll work on the clues, etc. When it's completed, I'll figure out how to upload it somewhere so that people can print flyers. Lots of work, but lots of lulz, I hope. |

Re: Operation: Crossword
Here's one I prepared earlier, for printing on A4 paper and cut longways to make two.

Kewl layout. Love the little anons for black squares. Any way you can convert this to a PDF for distribution?

Sweet! Maybe you can contact the mods so we can set up a section with flyers, posters, etc and you can add your URL. Good luck tomorrow!

Re: Operation: Crossword
I've been told by 2 independent people there is a problem with the crossword, but for the life of me I can't figure out what the frack the problem is... having done it several times.
Can someone please do it and tell me what's wrong so I can fix it? The only thing I've noticed so far is "Cruise" is 5 letters in the clue (correct spaces on the crossword). |

Re: Operation: Crossword
Don't have time for a full read tonight. But 17 & 18 Down are missing the answer in the answers section.
