It's relevant, but the story has to flow. Imagine the person reading it only knows that Anonymous has been holding protests world-wide. We're letting them know that in one city, Scientology has tried to prevent the legal protests. We have to find a place to fit that in.

We also need it sharp and concise. I know there's an urge to include every bit of relevant info, but if we do that, it becomes too much for any journalist to research or print. We want as few facts as possible, all supported by outside sources, and we want those facts to tell a story that's interesting and news-worthy.

You'd need clear evidence of that. A starbucks statement would go a long way. My guess is they probably want nothing to do with this but worth a shot if some one has their number.

On May 9th 2008 a petition[1] was filed with Mayor Frank Hillbard of Clearwater Florida. In that petition, 37 merchants of the Cleveland Street district assert that frequent anti-Scientology demonstrations are disruptive to commerce in downtown Clearwater, making it difficult to attract new customers to the downtown district.

The fax number on the petition belongs to City Councilman Paul Gibson, who has long and extensive ties to the Church of Scientology.

It has been confirmed that 29 of the 37 signatories also have long standing ties with the Church. Of the remaining 8 signatories, 8 are illegible and two are for duplicate business[2]. Many of these businesses are not open during weekends, when the protests are held. Business with ties to Scientology that were open during the protests had 'Anonymous Not Welcome' signs featured predominantly in their shop fronts.

This petition is the next in a series of attempts to thwart the legal rights of those opposed to the Church of Scientology. On March 10th, a petition for a restraining order was filed in court seeking to stop an upcoming picket.[3] The petition was filed twice, and twice denied. A pattern of similar efforts to silence dissent can be found throughout Scientology's past.

edit: also, if that research can be posted on a static website that we can link to, it would be helpful. Right now I have tinyurls pointing to your posts on this forum. Any journalist that wants to do digging can work with that, but if they just want to glance at it, the forum won't satisfy them.
