Getting a headstart on this one, will be updating this topic in about 20 hours when reports come in.
Currently, myself and other San Diego anon are going nuts in the IRC watching the win that is the Oceana areas. |

Re: San Diego, CA
Good raid, Anon. I was the Anon waving the sign "Free Isaac Hayes" (thank you to those who corrected my spelling) and was interviewed by NBC. I am connected to the videographer in the brown hat and vest, and we have about an hours worth of footage we will edit and post soon.Though I am honestly concerned for my life right now. It had just come to my attention that my face was visible through the stockings, and since I started a few chants and spoke to the press, Scientology might come to think of me as some kind of leader, and try to have me done away with...If I turn up dead, know I did not commit suicide. All in all it was a really good protest, and I am looking for the next one.

I'm going to make an Anonymous 2: Enturbulation Day recap video once I can get photos from all the protests. I think we did pretty well, got out to a lot of people. Take care of yourself, WootZoot.

Here are my pictures taken with my iPhone, I'll post my Nikon D50 pictures as soon as I get all the nice ones sorted out (600 of them!) and resized so they're not freaking 3008x2000.

I just wanted to let you know that I will orally pleasure any Anon who has video of the party van on its many drivebys. I was told that the random drivebys, especially during the march at the end, were fantastic morale boosters.
Every time we had to drive past you guys we made sure to drive by and rickroll the Church. |

I am glad that I went to this one and stayed longer, It was great driving along as Anon's CoPilot and nearly going the wrong way twice on two different occasions. Even if we had trouble parking, it was always another excuse to buzz the church.

Hate to be the downer
Great protest this weekend. Unfortunately, I spent a lot of time taking pictures and videos (which I hope to get posted this week), so I didn't get to see much of the detailed interaction between people. What I did see, though, was that least one of the passers-by on Feb 10 who stopped to talk with us had decided to take up a mask and join us on the 15th. That, if nothing else, is concrete evidence that our message is taking hold.
I hate to be the guy who brings the downer news to what would otherwise be a victory celebration thread, but in the interest of being the best, most effective we can, I think we need to look at what went right, and what we did wrong. I'll start with what needs to be improved, since that's all I really have time for at the moment... and I'll let you all mention the rest (good and bad... though there's a whole lot more good than bad to be mentioned). Harrassment of non-anons: I don't care if they ARE scienos. I don't care if they say something to taunt, make fun of, or harass you. Our purpose is not to make life difficult for anyone other than the high-ranking Scientology officials. If someone turns down a flier, don't take it personally. If someone comes through and calls us wackos, they're probably right... just let them go. If someone disagrees with your opinion, you can calmly discuss with them, but it doesn't help us at all if you just call them stupid. I saw a number of occasions where someone would turn down a flier, and an Anon would yell, "Igorance is a choice!" as they walked/drove away. Saying stuff like this is probably counterproductive - it basically harbors ill-will towards Anon from someone who would otherwise be an innocent bystander. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe our purpose here is to force our views on other people. We're here to raise people's curiosity, and to inform those who want more information. As sad as it is, San Diego is full of apathy - people have more fun things to do than care about what they see as some 'harmless, wacky celebrity religion.' It can be frustrating when something you know is so serious is taken lightly, or ignored, by someone you're talking to. We all need to realize, though, that it's not personal. How many times have you walked by someone standing outside a Target collecting signatures to reform the local school board? How often do you pass up fliers walking around downtown/PB/Mission Beach. Actually - I'm talking to the internet right now... so lets do one better: How many times have you seen one of those "Support our XXX" forwards show up in one of your inboxes, and just deleted it? Some people really cared about that cause and see it as a very serious issue... and in that case, we could be the ones choosing to be ignorant. Another downside we had was our police interaction. Now, I'm being nitpicky here... but I think that we need to be flawless in these presentations, because every ding against anon is one that will be exaggerated and touted by Scientology about how we're a criminal organization. I want to start out by saying that for the wild majority of the protest, everyone did a fantastic job of working with the police and addressing their concerns. That being said, during the protest, I made it a point to thank as many of the officers as I could for coming out and protecting us, and asking them what we could do to make their job easier. They've been absolutely incredible so far, and I really want to maintain their support. One of the issues brought up to me was that he didn't want us holding up traffic. I told some people about it, and as far as I can tell, everyone was totally receptive... but there were some people (who likely just didn't know) who were handing fliers to people as they were driving away, or running out into the street to give fliers to people in middle lanes. The police didn't seem to have a problem with this, as long as traffic kept moving - and I personally think it's a great approach. The big issue is, when that light turns green, we need to be out of the street and letting cars drive through. Noise. We received a noise complaint from about the grey boombox on the corner by the NBC building. I saw the officer walking over to it, and quickly jumped in to see what the problem was and how to resolve it. He said that he had a noise complaint, and we needed to turn it down. I quickly obliged, and notified everyone in the general vicinity that we needed to keep the radio down to about a 2 (that's where he said it was okay). Now, this was barely audible over the street noise. Later in the day, an Anon was carrying the boom box, and had it at full volume again. I informed him about what the cop said, and the other anon got defensive about it, arguing that we weren't breaking any laws and trying to find technical loopholes. As things stand, San Diego noise ordinances are ridiculously strict. Almost strict to the point of being unattainable. This basically gives the police 100% power over whether or not we can use amplification devices. They were fantastic this weekend in that they allowed us to use multiple devices, including the Party Van, which could otherwise be considered a 'sound truck' and be subject to special laws and restrictions. I think it's very important that we meet the SPIRIT of the laws and the officer's requests. Just as the police are being flexible with us (I saw a number of jaywalkers who weren't ticketed), we need to be flexible with them (heeding their requests). It is important that we make their job as easy as possible. This means keeping walkways clear, keeping traffic moving, and complying with any other reasonable requests they make. In the case of the noise - it's my opinion that even if there were no noise ordinances, if a police officer asks us to turn down, we should turn down. In the same way, if an officer asks us not to stand somewhere, or to spread out less, or more, or basically anything else, we should comply. These guys are out here at our request. They are there for our protection. If a scieno comes out and starts causing trouble, you'll be very happy they're there. Litter. We did a pretty good job picking up after ourselves when we moved, but we did a MUCH better job on Feb 10. Every time we relocated on Feb 10, we left our protesting location spotless - picking up both our trash and the trash that was already there. I think someone even made the comment, "Anonymous: Keeping San Diego's streets clean". This last time we were good, but not AS good. I spent some time picking up leftovers after each move - where as before, I tried and couldn't find anything. Personally, I think we should institute a 5-minute warning before we move, during which everyone packs everything up.. then a 2-minute warning in which we pick up all of the trash in the area. Once everyone is ready to move, we move. Staying together - on Feb 10, you all did a fantastic job of looking out for eachother and leaving no anon behind. I was one who could have been in serious trouble, had a group of 4 or 5 not stayed and waited for me while I talked to some people who had just walked out of the church. This last time, we weren't as good at doing that - at least, not at first. During the first move, once we started walking, nobody was making sure we all stayed together. During the second move (and the parade around horton), we did a much better job. I think the idea of spreading out across multiple intersections should be discussed as well... I don't know what the best solution is. My personal preference is that we should stay at one intersection, and cover 4 corners with lots of people. This makes it easier to see that a demonstration is going on. Also, it allows people with different specialties to excel - some are great at passing fliers, some are great at chants, and some are great on one-on-one discussions with curious parties. I personally prefer to do this, and when we were all close together, I was able to easily see when someone had picked up a flier and was asking the anon some questions, but the Anon was stumbling with his answers... I could then step in and do my thing. Someone at this protest actually complimented me on my one-on-one skills (I was the red luchador). Staying close together also allows the police to watch us more easily, making them more comfortable (I would think). I specifically asked an officer about this, though, and he said what we were doing on 2 corners was okay, as long as we stayed out of traffic. He wouldn't go into detail and give me personal preference - perhaps because he didn't want to be perceived as limiting our freedom of speech. I think the clustered vs. spread out approach should be discussed, though. Okay - gotta run. I'll post more observations when I get a chance. Please know that in posting this, my only goal is to make us better as a group. This is not an attack, and there is no reason to feel defensive, even if you're someone I mentioned specifically. We all did things wrong (I stumbled all over myself when giving that news interview that showed up on one of the YouTube videos, among other things). We also did a lot of things right. I really want to emphasize this. Except for these small things, I think everyone was on the ball. We policed ourselves well, we gave information to a lot of people, and again I think the general public had a good feeling about us. Please don't let the fact that I'm only pointing out the things we need to improve lead you to believe that I don't think this wasn't another win. |

Ushanka Anon here,
Awesome protest guys. I feel everything went well but I had one minor issue, the signs. A lot of our signs were made on the spot and were full of misspellings and forgotten words. I think we really need to put some effort into our signs, they are the main way we spread the word to motorists. Just spend some time the night before the protest and make a good sign. At the start of the protest at 11 there were maybe 5 signs. For Operation: Reconnect I plan on making a pvc support that will be collapseable for easy storage on which a banner can be held. It will look something like this: ![]() Anyone have any ideas on what to put on the banner? I'm in progress of making various anon stencils for signs. |

My report of the events
Okay, here's my post game report. San Diego actually grew in numbers this time, and the people here this month were alot more serious, alot more informed, and alot better behaved than those on the 10th. A few days before, I had secured rental of a Party Van, effectively dubbed the Magic Wog Bus. The plan was that I was bringing the van - several anons were going to make the banners, and a few others were going to bring electrical equipment for it. We picked up the van that morning from an area quite a ways away from the CoS to be safe, loaded up on water and cupcakes for L.Ron and thinking they would be easier to eat with masks on, and headed to the protest. When I got to the protest, I parked the van nearby. I met up with the other Anon, however, only one of the banners was there, as the second group hadn't arrived yet. The ones that were supposed to bring the electronics didn't remember to bring them or brought the wrong one. Not too much of an issue, but it looked like it might be epic fail right off the bat, as all we had was one banner and no musics. Determined, myself and a few Anons stayed behind and went into the Sam Goody (fully masked, mind you) and found the last AC adapter they had, and what a beauty it was at 140 watts! This w |
