Freewinds sealed and blue asbestos confirmed

Although the asbestos scandal has been around for a long time, it is fairly new to the general public--especially since the "dry dock" situation.
Dry-docking might be just the thing that brings this to total exposure... it is happening already.

A trickle, then the downpour, the the flood.

I mean.....you would think this story would be a little more interesting to the punters than, say, "cloned horse gives birth"? But, whatever "sinks your boat", I guess. Hurr, hurr, hurr.

That's awesome. I didn't even think of that. Essentially, he's saying 'even if you believe Scientology *does* cure cancer, you still can't justify knowingly exposing non-scientologist dock workers to known carcinogens.' You might add 'Unless you intend to waive all auditing costs for them to obtain the same cure, and provide documented proof that your method works.'

However much OSA try to squirm to get out of this one, they can't escape this:

The freewinds was built as a CAR FERRY. You can see this when you look at photos and see the twin funnels so that cars can drive between them. C deck was where cars and trucks were accommodated. Ferries are built to a higher fire resistive standard than regular ships, and it is obvious why. Cars full of gasoline are a fire hazard, and if there is a fire at sea, there is nowhere to run.

That is why there is SO MUCH asbestos lining the underside of decks and the vertical fire resisting steel and asbestos walls at reular intervals. It is all on the ship's blueprints for anyone to see.

The ship was later converted to a cruise ship. Then it was purchased by the SO (did they have a home inspector? sic.)

Just how you could possibly contain so much deadly blue asbestos is beyond me, but hey, I'm just a dumb architect not a trained Scientologist.

Like I said before, you do not see cruise ships from the 60's. Seems like the "wog" Cruise companies prefer the newer asbestos free models.

Our astute commenters, some affiliated with Scientologist agitators Anonymous and folks from Enturbation.org, are all over the church spokesperson's claim that the Freewinds is going to be ready in time for a May 8 CCHR cruise, as scheduled. In what seems to be a recording of a call to the booking number for the cruise, an operator tells the Anonymous caller that the trip has been delayed due to the ongoing work being done on the boat. It's dry docked, in fact, says the operator, just a week before the scheduled departure. That's a far cry from, "The Freewinds will be completing its refit on schedule," which a Scientology spokeswoman claimed in an earlier e-mail to Radar.

Scientology's cruise ship, the Freewinds has been sealed and docked by officials in Curacao. A local newspaper, the Daily Herald, reports: "During refurbishing and reparatory work...blue asbestos was released and ended up in the ventilation system."

The highest levels of Scientology are closely guarded by the Church, and they are only available on the Freewinds. It is possible that many high-ranking members of the Church (including Tom Cruise) may have been exposed to asbestos aboard the ship.


In 2001, architect and former Sea Org member Lawrence Woodcraft submitted a sworn affadavit claiming that there was blue asbestos, the most dangerous kind of asbestos, on the Freewinds. The Church of Scientology has consistently denied this claim.
