The mainstream media is slow to respond to any of this, and has been very disappointing overall, but they're not completely hopeless. Those times when they have come through (interviews on radio, tv, and in print) should lower our expectations to weeks rather than days before we see a response. Expecting them to run on internet time only aggravates them (as entrenched bureaucracies they can only move slowly) and frustrates everyone else. |

M/S BOHÉME (1968)
Pictures of the (Boheme--later Freewinds) boat before Scientology exposed their sailors and members to BLUE ASBESTOS. Dum dum dum... Did the Co$ due a survey on the boat before the purchase? If it was properly done, then they would have noted the Asbestos or the possibility. The picture of the guy in the cutoff jeans is a bit disturbing. Last edited by 423; 05-09-2008 at 04:00 PM. |

"In 1985, the Bohéme began sailing out from St. Petersburg on weekly cruises to Key West, Jamaica and Cozumel. Bohéme moved at close quarters their main clientele, the retired people from the Florida west coast."
I'm going to be dropping a dime to the St. Petersburg Times on this little tidbit

It's called "due diligence" -- and getting rid of it or otherwise mitigating the risk is called "due care". The CoS failed miserably at both... and, hopefully, they're going to be hung out to dry for willfully ignoring these standard measures of culpability. They failed when they purchased the ship. They failed when they operated the ship. They failed yet again by not disclosing this information when they put it in dry-dock in Curacao.

Current Events news reports, from around the world, get checked and reported on very quickly. You either find a local source and vette them over the phone or you fly someone there. Relying on our knowledge of how long interviews and detailed exposes take is a dangerous and complacent thing to do. This is neither of those things. And, as I said, this is all VERY easy to check on if the original reporter is willing to talk to anyone from here. He would have been CALLED by legit media. If he wasn't (with the obvious exception of Radar Online, who we know did) then this is being given the old "round file" by everyone. And not to far into the fact checking process, if a real news org got their hooks into this, then Mr. Woodcraft would have been contacted too. Maybe they have been. I don't know. But we can't just SUPPOSE this might take months. This isn't a complicated story when you come down to it. There actually isn't that much to verify, especially if the angle is intially just a lukewarm "it's been reported that" angle. |

Re: Freewinds sealed and blue abestos confirmed
One other potential angle to work here is contacting maritime organizations with the Anon press release of this story.
The 2010 date Karin Pouw mentioned to in her rebuttal to RADAR magazine's article is in reference to "SOLAS" (Safety Of Life At Sea) regs that kick in in 2010. International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia More correctly, grandfather clauses for old ships end in 2010, and they have to be brought up to spec if they want to continue sailing. Most of the changes required have to do with removing flammable materials and upgrading fire suppression systems, EPIRB's, etc. I haven't found anything in SOLAS that deals with hazardous materials like asbestos... but getting the word out at places like SOLAS News can't hurt. These organizations give a shit about safety. I'm submitting the info to as many as I can find. You can bet people responsible for enforcing maritime regulations are regulars on these sites.

Just for the record, I actually had not "harangued" them at all, merely sent an email with the contact information where the story could be confirmed. And I asked if there would be follow-up. All I expected was an email saying "yes/no. kthxbai". Common courtesy.

Freewinds asbestos public awareness campaign
I want to do something to help all those people who have no idea that they have been exposed to asbestos. The CoS certainly isn\'t making much effort to inform the public, and the mainstream media hasn\'t picked up on it yet. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE ABOUT THIS!! so I made a thread. The spirit of Anon is if you want something done, do it yourself. I am soliciting ideas for what to do.
so far I\'ve done some thinking and come up with fliers- we will absolutely need these for future raids. letter campaign- we could tie this in with operation over the wall and add a short bit about seeing a doc or just mention the freewinds asbestos. Ooh! we could do a letter campaign to all the WISE businesses to let them know. hivemind, ideas? comments? criticisms? scathing flames of my personal character? (feel free to reply anonymously)

Re: Freewinds asbestos public awareness campaign
I think we need to find OT8 completions as well as people who either worked or did maintenance on the freewinds.
Add to that any one who's spent time on there doing a CCHR seminar (scientologist or not) and any one who spent any time on there for any reason. Then start sending info packets containing scientific data on blue asbestos. The articles confirming the deathship is closed. The affidavit showing they've known for at least 10+ years if not close to 20+ years. Similar cases and what those groups of people did as well as a full CC list of every one who the info packet is being sent to should they wish to organize to file a suit or complain. No spin on any of this shit either just the facts. You guys work on this I'll print and mail it on my own dime and help track down names. Too big a fucking project for one person though. |

Re: Freewinds asbestos public awareness campaign
Yes, it is a huge project and help is needed.
About knowing who was on the ship, we must consider three groups of people: - the crew - who should be the most exposed - and the occasional workers will be difficult to identify without internal intelligence. - the people taking services there - who should be the least exposed, but the most likely to do something about it - can be identified by compiling Freewinds completion lists. IMHO, the best way would be to set up a new site dedicated to this issue with the elements mentioned in the previous posts and the lists of potential victims. It should also mention the ways to provide new names (especially for crew and workers) and how to get help (e.g. what type of doctors to contact). |
