Rename "L Ron Hubbard NoWay
It's a city issue, not a state issue.
You don't go campaigning the whole state of California just to rename a single street somewhere in one city. That's just dumb. You petition the local city council. Here's a relevant Google search: site:lacity.org rename street - Google Search Last edited by redplaidsofa; 07-05-2008 at 12:32 AM. Reason: edit |

Get it to be called Chan st, im not sure what number it is but if its number 4 that would be conciderably humerous..

Re: Lulzy idea for L Ron Hubbard Way
Go back to the original name. It would get the most support and show the
scilons just how much they are hated by the people of Los Angeles. |

Re: Lulzy idea for L Ron Hubbard Way
TBH, I don't really think it matters too much what it gets renamed to, if it's not LRH Way, then the scilons will be pissed, and it's a big win for us.
Berendo St. seems to me to have the best chance of success, older generations will support it by default, especially if you can present it as a return to the original culture and heritage of the place. Younger folks won't care so much about that angle, but they're likely to be unsupportive of the cult anyway - these are the people that you want to focus more on who and what their street is currently named after. In those situations, you can present it as a mistake that you're undoing. --Chilli Last edited by ChilliTime; 07-05-2008 at 01:49 AM. Reason: general clarifications |

Re: Lulzy idea for L Ron Hubbard Way
Gaiz,
The reason for the statewide ballot initiative is that once it's on the ballot, if enacted, it becomes state law, thus it prevents the $cis from using their LA council influence from renaming the street. Yes, it would cost a lot of money to do it without an army of anons, but I'm working on that angle. I think that trying to get the name restored at the council is worth it as an Anon project, but I have my doubts it will succeed. I think the key angle is to point out that the city is honoring a man who was a violent madman who founded a corporation designed to enrich himself at the expense of slave labor. Can you imagine what the councilors would say when confronted with: "So, you think we should honor coerced abortions, slave labor, spying on people, infiltrating the government, blatant racism, etc, etc?" Epic WIN if the media are there for the council briefing. Publicizing the truth works for us and hurts the culties, which is why all we have to do is shine the spotlight on the roaches and they will scurry for cover. |

Re: Lulzy idea for L Ron Hubbard Way
Before this even gets started someone needs to make appropriate local contact with the name change committee and possibly sympathetic local leaders, to send up a trial balloon and see if something like this has been done before, and if the council might be sympathetic. (I'm talking here about the local option now.) That way, you figure out if it's remotely possible before you do a lot of work.
Then, actually getting the sigs on a petition -- Door to door work is a lot of fun, but it's also enormously time consuming. First, there does need to be an appropriate leaderfag type to actually organize the canvass, because it's better to go out in groups. It's safer, and it's more fun. So there needs to be someone to set dates, times, and meeting points, and organize clipboards and train people on the little spiel they will say to the prospective signer. As to the doorknocking itself, my experience is, if you have teams of 4-6 people (always go in pairs for safety), you can knock on about 150 doors in two hours. During that time, you'll get about 50 people who answer the door. (Weekends and after 5). Even assuming you have a pretty high sign rate, you're still talking a LOT of work to get anything near 1000 signatures. Now, you can get sigs much quicker and easier hanging out near high traffic places like public transit stations during rush hour, if you have those. Hanging out at places like malls and Target is good too, but they'll usually throw you out when you get caught there, because it's private property and they don't like people doing political work there. Nevertheless, you can usually get a good hour or two in at those kinds of places before getting tossed out. (Edited to add: DON'T bother to ask permission. You won't get it. Sad but true. Just show up, do eet, and get tossed out. They won't do anything to you.) The main point in this kind of work is to make it lulzy, otherwise, people don't participate. tl;dr: LOTS of planning & work, but EPIC WIN if it happened-- way worth it. Re: Lulzy idea for L Ron Hubbard Way
A campaign for the old street name will get organizational support--historical societies and whatnot (not to mention generational)--These people are already pissed that Scilons are buying up the cool old historical bldgs and letting them sit and this would just be a shot fired in the right direction for them--anything that loosens the stranglehold.
I can't imagine what it would be like to live in a city like L.A or Clearwater and have these wierdos buy up the place. bleh!

Re: Lulzy idea for L Ron Hubbard Way
Pandora: I think the call has to come from a LAnon. The city council (and their staffers) won't listen to anyone long-distance on this. It's purely a local matter (except for the state initiative, which is good but extensively-difficult /b/lackup). Let the LAnons handle the initial contact.

Re: Lulzy idea for L Ron Hubbard Way
We could wait until the next big scandal, one that truly humiliates CoS, like revealing the RPF abuses, or Miscavige going to prison for beating his staff, and then saturate the city council with letters asking for the name change, since Hubbard created the authoritarian Sea Org and the RPF.
Gathering hundreds of thousands of signatures for a state petition isn't worth it, when this could drop into our hands. The trouble now with letter campaigns, now, ,to the city council is that its fifteen members can be individually targeted and vaguely threatened by CoS. Some of these people may be ambitious for higher office and not want CoS to call them the inevitable "bigot" insult. But a weakened and scandal-ridden CoS, soon, may be the right time. |

Re: Lulzy idea for L Ron Hubbard Way
QAnon: Cool, I'll hold off. The only thing I could do anyway is find out the process & post it here.
My other thoughts on this were that it would probably be best to have the petition signed by people who are actually living on the street, so I'm not sure how do-able this is given that I'm betting a lot of them are $cientologists themselves? Anyway, it's a brilliant idea, so go, LAnons, go! :D |

Yeah, the Old Guard have been talking about this for many years. When it was last suggested, the response was "Anonymous isn't your personal Army." }:-}
