Very importnat thing when toallking w/scilons

I have noticed a trend here on the boards. its not a trend of fail, more than it is of ignorance of true scilon culture.

When refering to people who have left Scientology, it is very important to say they have left a cult, not "Blown" as is the common occurrence. To those who think there isn't a difference, I assure you there is a big one. I was talking to magoo and asked her aobut what made her "blow" scientology, and she was very unnerved by the term.

"I didn't blow, I left a cult"-Magoo

The point is, when you say you "Blew scientology" it means you had overts or crimes against the church, that there is something inherently wrong for leaving. If you LEAVE the cult, you left because it wasn't providing what was unnecessary. The difference in diction is VERY important and you should always used the tem left, as opposed to blow. Make sure everyone knows this, pass it on, and nit pick anyone who does. We need to drill this. I am gonna start nit picking people that say "blow" more often.

i generally don't use their own lingo in any conversation unless it's to explain something so i've never used the term before. but good to know.

Oh. I'll admit "leaving the cult" and "blowing" were interchangeable in my mind because I don't believe the crap about overts. But I suppose the wrong usage must get on the exes nerves a bit so I'll watch myself from now on.

"Blown" has a very pejorative connotation for a scientologist. It would be like saying someone "deserted" from their job, when really they just left for a better one.

We do need to pay attention to whom our audience is. If we're targeting public scios in a flash raid, we should have banners and fliers that talk about the abuses going on that they might not be aware of. If we're targeting the general public, we can do the same, but also throw in "Scientology is a Cult" signs to help sell the message. During the monthly mass protests, signs that will piss off OSA and DM are pretty win, so "Mike Rinder Blew, you can too" make sense in that context. It's all about knowing your audience in advance and coming prepared.

Then why have former int base people recommended writing, "Mike Rinder blew" on postcards? Maybe it is more pejorative for a public scientologist than a Sea Org member?

1) Because of who Mark Rinder was - at one point, he was all the fingers on DM's right and and a couple on the left. A lot of the of the folks who weren't at Int Base have no IDEA that Mark Rinder was ever RPF'ed. David Miscavige would drag him out of the shitpool, shower him off, dress him up, and cart him for big events - and Mark Rinder is still on the Scientology websites as a bigwig. Just thinking that someone so high-level would blow from Scientology is devastating to many Scilons.

2) Because it's information that David Miscavige has suppressed, and it's something that he will flail his tiny fists when he finds out the information has spread.

3) Because it's a clear, concise message. "Mark Rinder Blew, So Can You" is easy to write and easy to read.

I agree with what you say--but it still flies in the face of the OP. Because according to his logic, if Mike Rinder "blew," than iin their minds he is a criminal and has overts.

So, I am wondering, does a public scientologist have a different view point on this than a Sea Org member? (One thing which occurs to me is that it is a lot easier for a public to simply go "offlines" and dissapear back into conventional life. They don't "need" to blow because they CAN simpy "leave the cult.")

I'm an ex and I like to use blow. Uh, I mean the term "blow!" I use it when talking to ex-$cilons especially cause it's funny. Any ex is considered a blow whether they announced they were leaving or just ran. Tory and some others may feel differently about the term but we are all different. I find the term just another way to make fun of $cientology.

I don't even get pissed when someone call exes "brain-washed stupid ex-culties" or whatever was said the other day. lol It's a fair description if a little harsh.

Don't worry about us. We're just so damn glad you guys are doing this that I don't think you could hurt our feelings. And if some exes do get their feelings hurt they will get over it. Just keep doing what you're doing and don't worry about being politically correct!

anon1957 has a point. I think it's case by case. I'm happy to say i blew staff in the way that someone protesting against the state would be happy to admit they got arrested. And I personally wouldn't give a rat's ass if someone currently "in" felt that was a pejorative.

Though, sure, there'd be Scientologists who would view "having blown" as a negative, I think in the long run it's not as important as telling someone the only test ever done to verify the existence of an "engram" was a complete failure &so wtf are u doin?

OK, then. I'm sticking to my story.

"If stats are so good, why did both Mike Rinder and Jason Beghe blow?"

I said this to a Sea Org woman in NYC on the 10th, and it really freaked her out. She had been bantering on with various anon about how the monthly demonstrations were helping "stats" all cheerful and good humored. But when I said that her face froze and she grabbed her phone and started taking pictures of me. I am not a kid, so perhaps she thought I was an ex, which I am not.

It got a rise out of her, which was the point of the statement.

Oh, the $cientologists that haven't blown yet? They have thought about it in most cases. If you want to change blow to leave on your signs then that's fine. It may be a more gentle approach and make it easier for the $cilons to accept.

But I think you all are doing a fine job no matter what words you use.
