What hit You the hardest?
I thought it may be interesting to see what event, story, video e.t.c has had the largest effect on you.
For me, i think it was in reading thr story of Paulette Cooper. thinking about it it is difficult to answer as so much that i have come across has hit me strongly, but i came across the PC story before i had joined this movement and i remeber just laying down feeling more shocked and saddened the more i read and was also one of the things that influenced me most into joining this movement so the Q is what has affected you the most! (i know affected is ambiguous but im trusting in anons to know what i mean ;) ) |

Re: What hit You the hardest?
For pics, it was Jospheus Havenith boiled like a hot dog.
For vids, it was Tory crying in her 'Speaking Freely' video. Just thinking about both of these makes me hope that DM will get cancer from the Asbestos boat. Horrible, debilitating cancer. The kind that leaves you a phlegm-spewing, emaciated corpse of the person you once were and makes you cough up blood until you finally die in a puddle of your own fluids. He deserves it. Seriously. |

Re: What hit You the hardest?
For me it was and still is Miscavige. Now Hubbard was just batshit crazy, mad as a balloon and paranoid. Granted he started the whole thing off and has one hell of a lot to do with the way it is today...but Miscavige...If I believed in the concept of the Anti-Christ (I'm a devout Athiest) then Miscavige would be it for me.
This guy basically TOOK control of CoS from its rightful heirs and has just the most reprihensible catalogue of crimes laying at his feet. The stuff Hubbard orchestrated was just lunacy...the stuff Miscavige has orchestrated is evil and very very scary. I believe that the CoS may just have a chance of genuine reform if he is eliminated....not that that is what I want, the Church must be dismantled, it's crimes are too great for its continued existence to be permitted.

Re: What hit You the hardest?
From OCMB, blownforgood:
From the Cine Shoot Crew story, 1997 Operation Clambake Message Board :: View topic - Another day in the life at the SCIENTOLOGY INT BASE Selected passage: "After hours and hours of sec checking, it was around 1 AM at night. It was now that we would realize that up until now we had never experienced anything that would compare to what was to come. We were told to muster outside on the road that was next to the dining room. We were told that where ever we went, we were to run, that we would not speak unless spoken to, we would be on a strict military schedule and that we would not be leaving the property to return to our own berthing until all of us had admitted to all the crimes we were involved in. The 6 of us lined up on the road. There were 4 guys and 2 girls. We were all tired and had not really got more than a few hours of sleep in at least one month. It was July and we were not only skinny from not eating much, but the heat and lack of sleep had really taken its toll on our overall energy level. It was now about 1AM. Most staff on the property had long since gone home. Most of the lights on property had been turned off and it was very dark out. Here we were, just having spent hours being grilled about what crimes we had been committing and all we wanted to do was get some sleep. It was at that moment when 3 off road motorcycles pulled up. Jon Stumbke, IG MAA RTC was on one and the others were driven by Gold Security guards. “Run” they said. “Stay in the headlights and run until we say stop!” We started to run. Where were we going? What the hell was this? I had heard of some crazy shit going on at the Int base but this was beyond anything I have ever seen or heard. Motorcycles driving behind us in the pitch black while we were made to run ahead of them like dogs. With them yelling out at us every few seconds to keep going or scolding us for slowing down. They kept driving and would yell out to go left or right at certain points and we were just running all over the property. The property at the Int Base is over 500 acres and some parts were fairly undeveloped. We ran all over the property and kept on running. When one of us would slow down or stop. The others were ordered to grab that person and force them to keep going. No matter what, we were not allowed to stop for any reason. We ran across grassy areas, dirt, pavement, through trees, and anywhere else the guys on the motorcycles decide to drive. It was almost as though we were not anywhere in specific, but that we were just going to run until someone had decided we had run enough. Finally one of the girls just collapsed. She could not run any more. She was tired and was crying. The rest of us were made to do push–ups while she was yelled at and made to get up and get running again. She cried and ran at the same time. [b]It was horrible to watch. It was horrible to experience. It was just plain horrible. That sick felling you get when seeing something awful and wrong. This moment would be burned into my existence forever. I knew then, that I would never forget this for the rest of my life".[b] tl;dr: perverted, power and control bulls**t, f**ed up mean people and so on

Re: What hit You the hardest?
Talking with the father of a guy who had to basically be wrenched out of the "Church" by his family and was left mentally unstable by all the events prior to and after becoming free IRL at Op:PH.
Sure, all the stuff I see on here hits me hard, but being faced with someone affected so much by it IRL, with real emotion in his voice and eyes, that did it for me- luckily I was wearing a mask... damn sap I was.

Re: What hit You the hardest?
When I was in high school, some friends of mine and I decided to try a little experiment after we'd just had a long night of discussion the pros and cons of different religions. We decided to take all the "pros," combine them and start a new religion. We found out very quickly how easy it was to manipulate people. Our "religion" spread quickly and got out of hand before we knew it. We were not immune to corruption of power so we decided to end it ASAP.
The mind control and manipulation aspect of Scientology is what got my attention several years ago and is what continues to morbidly fascinate me as it underlies many of the horrible stories we hear. |

Re: What hit You the hardest?
The Ted Koppel Nightline interview of David Miscavige, specifically his inability to answer questions and his use of similes to try to paint Scientology as having experienced the kind of persecution that other religions had to endure. Which got me to research their history, which paints a very contradictory picture of them being the ones persecuting others.
In close second is Operation: Freakout. |

Re: What hit You the hardest?
For me, now, it's the Freewinds. The asbestos has been known about for awhile but when it comes to the forefront like it did now it just slaps you in the face. The CoS management knowingly exposed thousands of people over 20 years to asbestos which in the end will probably kill hundreds of them. To me, in my mind, they murdered hundreds of people. It's just a matter of time. And for what? More money. It's utterly disgusting and it makes me physically ill every time I think about it.
They've done a lot of other really scummy things, but killing your own people just for a few extra bucks is just unfathomable. |

Re: What hit You the hardest?
They just get worse and worse. The crimes are horrific, but what drove it home to me are the stories of petty torture and low grade misery.
The musical chairs incident at Int The beatings and people having curses screamed into their faces on a daily bases The recent radio interview on glosslip radio with everyone being forced to jump in the pool because of something Miscaviage did himself People having to scrub out a skip with toothbrushes because they made a joke Jack in the box for your wedding anniversary, never seeing your spouse or being made to divorce because people being married isn't convenient to DM Bugs, roaches, rats, boiler rooms, malnutrition in the RPF Just the low-grade misery of it all and people stuck in it because they have been hypnotized without their consent. They had no idea what they were getting into, it really is a trap. That's what it boils down to. The cage that they have been trapped in is their own minds, because someone ought to be able to walk out of situation like that. The murders and so on are horrific, but the everyday misery is probably much more widespread.

Re: What hit You the hardest?
When I first starting reading stuff about scientology on the net a while back (I can't even remember how or why I ended up doing this, but I found Operation Clambake), it was fairgame that really got me riled up. Paulette Cooper, but also the bullbaiting tactics.
I had no idea until I came here about what it's like for those on the inside. |

Chanology hit me the hardest.
If you're on the internet for decades, you've heard of the cult. What you have not heard of is a consolidated effort to tell everyone about it. |

Re: What hit You the hardest?
Quote:
For years I would read a.r.s or clambake, off and on, and I had to force myself to stop for long periods of time because I would just become outraged that such an organization could be allowed to thrive in our world. I would be frustrated because there was nothing I could do about it, and the thought of picketing their Orgs, after reading what happens to all their critics, terrified me. But when the "Message to Scientology" youtube video was posted, it was like "FINALLY, SOMEONE IS GOING TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!" And I got on board that day. |
