I am surprised. I have been to two of the Anonymous protests and saw very professional police (with the exception of the afternoon at the shrine). And I have protested Hubbard College, Celebrity Centre, Hubbard Exibit and the Recruitment/Bookstore manytimes And I have never had a bad experience with the police. Most of the time the police have cautioned the $cilons. Many LAPD officers have asked for information. I have given them links to whyaretheydead and xenu several times. No offence but perhaps it was the way you approached or responded to the officers? |

Re: Police force's attitude towards Anonymous worldwide
Halifax, Canada, cops were cooperative. On 3/15 there were like ten patrol cars and vans at first (probably because of the self-adressed bomb video on youtube, lulz), but they later left. A few times they were called over for completely untrue/idiotic reasons, but they were always listening to what we had to say, while still defending the scilons' (and general public's) rights.

Re: Police force's attitude towards Anonymous worldwide
I'd rate Austin as mostly neutral.
The cops are nice enough, but seem much cozier with the Scis than with us. Today, there was an officer of some sort sitting inside the building the whole day; we don't know if it was Austin PD or an off-duty cop on the payroll. Feb 10 we had 10 officers and a paddy wagon, Mar 15 we had four officers, Apr 12 and May 10 we had two officers, and today it was either one or none. I'm really hoping that the officer inside today was a paid security person and not an APD officer, but I'm going to call on Monday and talk to someone about why they're allowed to be so cozy with the Scis if they're on duty.

Re: Police force's attitude towards Anonymous worldwide
Coming from a country where the notion of off-duty officers seems just foolish, I wonder why no simple solution has been implemented to distinguish the on-duty officers from off-duty ones (e.g. a fluorescent armband).

Re: Police force's attitude towards Anonymous worldwide
Clearwater PD has remained brilliant. Their pre-protest speech on Sea Arrgh was shortened down to "Raise your hand if you've been here before. Okay, behave." And there were no issues with them, although they escorted away a homeless dude that was bothering our ladies.

Florida Anons love them some Clearwater Police! The CPD is there specifically looking out for our well being and supporting our 1st Amendment right to peaceful assembly. But from what I've heard, the Orlando Police SERIOUSLY need to take a page from their Clearwater brothers in blue.

Nashville's latest: The police weren't even there. They drove by a couple of times, and stopped once to ask us to turn down the music, as they were rounding the corner, but other than that, we had no interaction with them at all. They aren't worried about us in the least. This is a good thing.

Re: Police force's attitude towards Anonymous worldwide
Atlanta, of course, started off with ranks of mostly amused (in Feb) then semi-hostile (in Mar) stormtroopers, and two Anons got v&. We were hassled for noise violations, innocent drive-by-ers got popped for honking, there was unmasking pressure. Then some OG / namefagged folk started in-person chatting, and a miracle occurred. From April until June, fewer and fewer police, no stormtroopers. Lots of chit-chat back and forth, though no officers have accepted caek or drink.
Awesome Cop has gotten on his loud hailer and joked about wanting to see himself on YouTube again. Officers have also asked protesters what "caek" is, only to be told, anticlimactically, that it's, you know, cake. That you eat. Stuff with icing, innit? Yes, cake. Neighborhood oldsters came to view the pirates in June, and the cops attempted to hand off Anon fliers to them, then kept them for themselves. Cops also visibly tickled watching Anons dancing around and singing. Scilons have been hiding, mostly. They have an alternate hive, but activity there has been nearly nil, too. Maybe we're close to getting across the message that Atlanta (and Athens) DO NOT WANT them. ![]()

Re: Police force's attitude towards Anonymous worldwide
Amsterdam, Netherlands:
Police is pretty relaxed as-is. Very rule abiding (they will nitpick on small mistakes with registering flash raids etc) but in general they're pretty relaxed and know what we're doing here. They also got a police station about 10 meters next to the org which is pretty fun if the scifags call and call again and call again :P |

Re: Police force's attitude towards Anonymous worldwide
The Montreal police never really bothered coming to out protest.
They actually trust us enough to keep everything peacefull and abide to the law. Though we had to call them for the last protest since some random guy who was very drunk and/or high showed up and pretended to be with us. There was some boob grabing by him, which was quite the finnal straw. The cops showed up fairly quick and arrested the bastard. The police were very polite and seemed to be rather neutral with us and the Co$, but leaning a bitt towards our side.

Re: Police force's attitude towards Anonymous worldwide
Orlando has been retarded. I would say the general police attitude is hostile, or they lack one completely.
The last protest, from what I heard, there was a lack of cops there. Likely from the news story that broke about violating rights, etc. I didn't go, but the impression I got from others is that they've given up on trying to suppress our rights. The true test will be this weekend at Spy vs Sci |

Re: Police force's attitude towards Anonymous worldwide
Tustin (OC, CA) had cops hanging on hand for the entirety of the protests back in April and May (actually followed us to our cars and helped us avoid PI tail in May). Then they cruised by for the June protest. We think the Scions called them initially and their presence has steadily dropped off.

Re: Police force's attitude towards Anonymous worldwide
Ahh, since I don't think they've been mentioned, Tampa Police Department (encountered raiding the Yborg, usually) is difficult but not ridiculously so. Ybor is a party area surrounded by an area of somewhat higher crime than normal, so masked men in the evening = OMFGWUT.
The far more annoying problem, from what I recall, is the Ybor Centre rent-a-cops.

Re: Police force's attitude towards Anonymous worldwide
Sunderland UK cops have been OK as in coming round at the protest to speak to us. Having said that from day one they enforced petty rules. First no masks, they said we might scare people, so what about Muslims who wear burkhas, is that not scary for kids. Of course if masks were not to scare people why would we have Halloween LOL. Next they said no photos of the scilons, so now because they baawwed we can't take photos of them, anyway will see what their attitude is on the 12th.!

Re: Police force's attitude towards Anonymous worldwide
Does that mean you can request that the scilons not take photos of you? I don't know UK laws, but if they can stop you from doing it it may not hurt to try the same on them...

Re: Police force's attitude towards Anonymous worldwide
Plymouth police have been friendly but appropriately neutral. Only concern is disparity between Stu reporting 4 assults with video evidence and being told it was a civil matter and Scilons made up assault report resulting in 4 police turning up at his flat, precipitating his arrest.
We think maybe a scilon sympathiser or 2 maybe but most police just doing their job, which is to remain neutral and uphold the law. It's a shame it isn't necessary to report being a supporter of scientology in ones job as Scilons always put scientology first, with no regard for legal issues or rules related to their other jobs. Names will be cross referenced and situation being monitored. |
