Pittsburgh, PA
Ready to rock the house for May! Still not sure what my schedule is for that weekend, but I'll do everything humanly possible (and more) to get there without screwing myself up the ass.

?/0, would you be open to doing a mini-picket in State College on the 9th (IIRC you're in the area, right?) and heading to the Arn City next day? I'm posting a topic for one in the mini-raid forum to see if anyone else would like to do so.

Re: Pittsburgh, PA
PITTSBURGH ROCKS!
![]() so, someone made a thread about how some of the smaller cities and some of the cities who don't get as much recognition as the places with bigger orgs are being slighted. i happen to think ya'll should get more recognition. i want to thank you for organizing the protests in your city. i know that it must be much harder to show up with very few people and protest. every Anonymous protest is important. every anon who protests is vital. every anon who cannot make it to the protests, but who helps in other ways is vital. there is not one of us who is not an integral part of this movement. so, thank you very much for having your protests! day day, AnonMomAnon .

Ha, yeah...we keep weird hours and never seem to be all around at once. And for anyone else wondering how to access the channel, we're at #pghraid on the partyvan server, which is currently up, and I am currently connected to it.

Re: Pittsburgh, PA
Hey everyone, if you haven't already, take a look at this thread: Flash Raid Pittsburgh PA
Basically, we've been having an escalating problem with the shopowners across the street from the Scientology bookstore here -- on the sidewalk where we usually have our protests. They've been complaining, calling the cops, etc. They claim they're losing a significant amount of money every time we protest. There's also suspicion within the above linked thread that Scientology may be spreading some negativity about Anonymous throughout the neighborhood, leading to the tension. There was a recent flash/hug raid there, and basically, a shopowner we had previously thought was friendly to us ended up confronting Anonymous and threatening to call the police unless everyone moved to the Scientology side of the street, which they ended up doing, even though they were technically within their rights to be where they were. Pittsburgh does NOT require a permit to hold a protest on a city sidewalk. However, it seems as though the wise thing to do in this situation may be to try and acquire one for future protests, just so that it's extremely clear that what we're doing is legal and protected, and so that storeowners don't have ground to stand on when they try to throw us off of public property. Also, some people have suggested trying to talk to the storeowners on a non-protest day and make peace, though I'm currently at a loss for how to approach this, if they really are losing money, since they likely won't be in a mood to negotiate. Anyway, does ANYONE have any experience with applying for city permits? If anyone's able to start in on the task, I'd be very appreciative, as I'm not at all familiar with it. Edit, another possible idea: Would anyone be up for making the May 10th protest a "moving" protest, where we all wander the South Side in the general vicinity of the Scientology building, handing out fliers and not constantly blocking off the same shops? We could reach a decent number of people that way, and we might not provoke the same ire we do when we park our butts outside on their sidewalks. There is the abandoned building the cop suggested last time, but we tend to spill over to either side of it, so perhaps a few of us stay there, and the rest move to busy intersections and corners with no shops right behind them, and we can rotate through the day. I'm just brainstorming here, seeing as we have under two weeks until May 10th, and I don't know what the turnaround time would be for a permit if someone started now. If anyone's got other ideas, please post them. Last edited by MissAnonymous; 04-30-2008 at 06:04 PM. Reason: I had a new thought. |

Re: Pittsburgh, PA
I know the Indian shop owners like us. I also think it would be a great idea for a moving protest, but I'm not sure how long I'll be able to stay this time. I've previously gotten at least 4 hours in the last two protest that I've wnet to, but this time I think I'll get less than 3 since I have other plans for that Saturday.
