Re: Winnipeg

I thought I'd post a funny little thing that happened to me a few weeks back. It looks like they are also handing out pamphlets because when I was waiting at the bus stop across from the Millennium Library(Donald and Graham) this cute girl in her late teens - early 20's approached me and handed me a pamphlet and just said "Here you go" and began to walk away. it was for one of the books they offer, I can't quite remember the name but it said to buy this particular book and then also buy a "work book" to go along with said book. I then decided to go after the women and in a nice tone asked her how she be apart of such a thing that has done so many horrible things and that she appeared to be to young and smart to fall in with such a blatant cult. she had a confused look on her face and she didn't say anything, her friend then kinda grabbed her and told he to come along. It was interesting to say the least

Epic video, onehuman.
I look forward to seeing you at the next protest. I am so glad you can make it to one last protest in Winnipeg, as I'm sure a lot of anon loved your presence.

Our message is consistently against the abusive policies of scientology, not the belief system itself.

If people want to perform auditing on each other and LRH routines all day long and believe in Xenu, that's cool. And that's "scientology", as a belief system.

Our beef is with the corporate management of the organization and the abuse it allows through policies like disconnection, fair game, the RPF, and introspection rundown.

Long story short, yer button is not something I would wear. If it had the word "abuse" after "scientology", then I'd wear it.

I can understand where you're coming from. However, remember that the use of the word Scientology is ambiguous in that it is a subject/belief system as well as an organization. In fact, there are still signs which say "Scientology kills" where the holder of the sign means the organization and not the belief system. Even Tommy Gorman and many other ex-scientologists refer to the organization of Scientology as "Scientology" in his vids because it's simply shorter to say.

With that said, I don't think it would be overly horrible should anyone choose to wear these buttons. In fact, when asked, we can clarify we're against the organization.

sorry but i disagree with you. $cientology in its current state is what im protesting. not just the disconnection policy or the fair game policy. im not protesting someones belief, im protesting $cientology.
the button is accurate

May I ask if you're protesting the belief system of Scientology or the organization of Scientology? I ask because the inaccuracy comes from what people mean by Scientology (subject vs organization). This is where the inaccuracy comes from, and it's understandable how it can be read the wrong way.

im not protesting anyones right to believe anything. im pretesting scientology, its human rights abuses. lets face it scientology is a cult and its not acceptable in my city. scientology must go. whoever is left may start something similar if they wish as long as it doesnt violate even the basic human right to food and water, like they did with Lisa. i could go on and on about all the other abuse going on, but i dont think we all need to rehash why we protest. whyaretheydead.net explains it all for me.
so yes, i say NO to scientology.

I'm sure most other anons agree with you, as I myself does.
Just wanted to clarify how wearing said button can have a double meaning to the casual eye:
1) "No to Scientology" means no to the subject and belief system of Scientology, and
2) "No to Scientology" means no to the organization of the Church of Scientology

It's obvious we mean #2; there's no doubt about that. I think what winanon was getting at was how it can also mean #1, which is what you, him, and I obviously disagree with. "No to Scientology abuses" would be less ambiguous and clearly lean more toward the meaning of #2. Get what I'm saying now? I'm not disagreeing with you; just wanted to make clear the point I'm trying to get across (i.e. the double meaning of the "no" symbol over Scientology).

Re: Winnipeg

WINNIPEG ROCKS!

so, someone made a thread about how some of the smaller cities and some of the cities who don't get as much recognition as the places with bigger orgs are being slighted. i happen to think ya'll should get more recognition.

i want to thank you for organizing the protests in your city. i know that it must be much harder to show up with very few people and protest.

every Anonymous protest is important. every anon who protests is vital. every anon who cannot make it to the protests, but who helps in other ways is vital. there is not one of us who is not an integral part of this movement.

so, thank you very much for having your protests!

day day,
AnonMomAnon

Re: Winnipeg

This just occurred to me.

In the U.S., the Church of Scientology benefits from tax-exempt status, but in Canada they do not, and are classified as a "religious non-profit organization". Just like our neighbour anons to the south want to get rid of their tax exempt status, can we do something similar and start a campaign to get rid of their "religious non-profit" status?

I don't know Canadian law very well, but I do know that there's nothing non-profit about them if they function as a business.
