Re: Fallout 3 (Due in october)
I'm very skeptical about this. Bethsoft is not known for their in-depth dialogue or character development, which were key to Fallout 1 and 2. This game seems like more of a shoot-em-up than an actual roleplaying game.

Re: Fallout 3 (Due in october)
Considering the utter majesty of Bethesda's last effort (Oblivion,) I have very high hopes for this.
Two probs, tho: 1: Last I heard, the game world of Fallout 3 will be significantly smaller than that of Oblivion. I enjoyed having such a huge sandbox... 2: Release date is but a month after the release of Spore- I can handle only so many epic games at once (or, abandon any hope of replacing my ex-GF.)

Oh yes, I'm a huge fan of the series, just hope they don't screw this one up.

Re: Fallout 3 (Due in october)
I'm going to be in the thick of a really intense grad program when that comes out.....suck. warhammer is coming out then too. i'd better just destroy my computer so i don't get sucked in.
..ah, the memories of high school playing fallout and listening to creed (hey, we all make stupid decisions) my favorite RPG series by far. I really hope Bethesda can recreate the ambiance and originality.

Re: Fallout 3 (Due in october)
It's basically a religious requirement that I buy this thing when it comes out. Never thought I'd see the day, y'know?
Now if they'd figure out how to finally make Full Throttle 2 (it had been in production, but got cancelled; broke my god damn heart)... |

I have zero faith in Bethesda, Fallout 3 will suck in ways we are currently incapable of comprehending. It'll be you running across an endless desert for fifty hours with no idea of what you should be doing, because the game will only have a thin veneer of a plot. And it will take itself way too seriously.

Re: Fallout 3 (Due in october)
I don't have very high hopes for fallout 3. Honestly, Behesda can make nice looking and very playable games but they lack character development a proper deep plot. Both a deep plot imho, GOOD DIALOGUE and character development are what would score this game big, but I fear they wont be delivered. I'll wait for reviews for this first to see if its worth it. I wont be pre-ordering.

Re: Fallout 3 (Due in october)
Yeah, Bethsoft is not known for their engaging dialogue, character development, or gripping plot. Anyone who's endured the dialogue vending machine system (gotta click 'em all!) of Morrowind or Oblivion is gonna be skeptical about this game.

Re: Fallout 3 (Due in october)
Okay- I'll agree that the true gameplay strength of Oblivion wasn't so much the plot.
Now, I'm old enough to have bought Ultima 1, for the apple 2 (official release came in a ziploc bag along with a xeroxed manual) and I can tell ya that Ultima had a SHIT plot, and that tradition of crapass RPG storytelling has persisted, over the past 24 years. What made Oblivion unique, and oh-so-entertaining, was that there was sooooooo much to do. I kept playing for weeks, after finishing the main storyline, as it took me months to master all the guilds, all the skillz, the gajillion-plus quests. I hope that despite the definitive end that is promised in FO3, it will offer the same richness of experience that made Oblivion so cool. I may be wrong, However, and there very well might be some horrific ass-sucking... But I like to be optimistic.

Re: Fallout 3 (Due in october)
As long as it doesn't go down the Bioshock line while bioshock had great "lore" / game play the very finite paths kind of piss me off.
I know enough about the new Fallout to tell you that you are going to need a rocking machine. Don't know how they'll play the RPG elements but until some one masters the concept of dynamic alignment with consequence (NWN kinda had this but not really) they will all fail. Any game that stops me from butchering and raping the good guys and changes because of it well is not a true RPG. I could rant more elequently on this and have in other places so I shall keep it short :) |

Re: Fallout 3 (Due in october)
Is it going to be turn based? i know thats kind of last decade, but it worked REALLY well with the previous games...except when you were in vegas and the whole city was coming after you.
i'd like to see them use it..

Re: Fallout 3 (Due in october)
no its not going to be turn based. however there is going to be a time slowing feature that will allow you to target specific body parts like in the previous games. There will be an action point system that is going to be interfaced with the time feature and the APs will recharge when ur not firing. You can still run around and stuff freely during combat though.
